The world number 1 is looking to reach the finals of the Monte Carlo Masters in the upcoming semi-final battle against Casper Ruud. Djokovic hasn’t actually won the tournament since 2015, which I’ve factored into my tennis predictions today for this match. All of the details are shared below.
Our favourite Novak Djokovic vs Casper Ruud predictions
I didn’t cover Djokovic for the tournament win in my initial Monte Carlo 2024 preview. Instead, I went for Alcaraz, who sadly didn’t compete due to injury. That said, Djokovic would probably be my second choice, and he’s looked in solid form in the tournament this year. And as he goes up against Ruud in the semi-finals, I believe he will be quietly confident.
With this in mind, let me reveal my tips for this match now:
Djokovic to win 2-0 @ 10/11 (1.91)
Based on the form and tenacity Djokovic has displayed in his last few rounds, I have to shoot for the Serbian to win in straight sets. Additionally, I think his game matches up well against Ruud, as he can use his forehand to dictate play and command the points. He also has the mental edge over Ruud for obvious reasons.
Djokovic -3.5 games handicap @ 7/10 (1.70)
If he is to do the business and secure a straight sets win over Ruud, I see no reason he cannot put together a -3.5 games handicap. This has an even greater chance if Djokovic is able to secure an early break, which is very possible, too.
Novak Djokovic vs Casper Ruud odds
The chance of Djokovic pulling through this match and reaching the finals is 75%, while the probability for Ruud is 29.40%.
Djokovic sets his sights on Monte Carlo finals against Ruud
Before this exciting match begins, let me give some extra details for both players to complement the predictions shared above.
Novak Djokovic preview
It’s been a strange few months for Novak Djokovic. He has endured a couple of bizarre losses, especially in Indian Wells, and he’s missed several tournaments quoting personal reasons. Of course, he’s also parted ways with his long-term coach. But he seems locked in for this year’s Monte Carlo Masters – reaching the semi-finals without losing a set.
Casper Ruud preview
Casper Ruud is a great clay court player; there’s no denying that. After all, he’s made the finals of the French Open twice, yet he was destroyed last time by Novak Djokovic. As for Ruud’s performances in Monte Carlo this year, he produced solid wins over Tabilo and Hurkacz before taking out Humbert in the semis. So he’s obviously finding his best tennis once again.
Djokovic vs Ruud head to head
As is the case for Novak Djokovic against most players, he has a commanding head-to-head record against Ruud of 5-0. Amazingly, he has never even lost a set against Casper Ruud, and three of these five wins have been on clay!
