Yoshihito Nishioka Australian Open 2023 Odds
Contents
Yoshihito Nishioka is coming into this tournament after a semifinal outing at the first Adelaide event. The Japanese number 1 recently recovered from an injury he sustained at that tournament. That said, these are the odds offered on Nishioka to win the Australian Open:
Although Yoshihito Nishioka reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, he is still priced at a massive 50/1 to win the title. This is no surprise however, as the 27 year old hasn’t fared too well in grand slams in the past. As a matter of fact, Nishioka had never been past the third round of any grand slam prior to the 2023 Australian Open.
Previous Rounds – Nishioka Australian Open 2023
Yoshihito Nishioka faced Mikael Ymer in the first round; he came out on top in straight sets, breaking his opponent six times in the process. Next, Nishioka took on Dalibor Svrcina, a player ranked outside the top 100. As expected, the Japanese number 1 didn’t have too much trouble knocking him out in straight sets.
In the third round, Nishioka met a familiar foe in Mackenzie McDonald, a player he had met five times before. Previous clashes between these players had been one-sided, as Nishioka had four wins in five encounters between them. Interestingly, McDonald had beaten top seeded Rafael Nadal in his previous match; however, he fell to Nishioka in straight sets.
Upcoming Match vs Khachanov – Australian Open
With his win against McDonald, Yoshihito Nishioka set up an interesting clash with Karen Khachanov. Interestingly, the Japanese player has struggled against Khachanov in the past, losing three of their four meetings. Considering Nishioka is yet to lose a set in this tournament, it’ll be interesting to see how he’ll match-up against his Russian opponent.
Yoshihito Nishioka’s Form Prior to Australian Open 2023
Yoshihito Nishioka has only played four singles matches in preparation for the 2023 Australian Open. The Japanese player reached the semi-final of the first Adelaide Hobart, retiring in the second set due to injury.
- Nishioka vs Korda – lost (rtd)
- Nishioka vs Popyrin – won 2-1
- Nishioka vs McDonald won 2-0
- Nishioka vs Rune – won 2-1
Yoshihito Nishioka’s Performance At Australian Open in the Past
Yoshihito Nishioka reached the third round of the Australian Open back in 2020, losing out to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Unfortunately, the Japanese number 1 hasn’t gotten past the first round since then, so it’ll be interesting to see how far he’ll go in 2023.
Yoshihito Nishioka Australian Open 2023 Prediction – Fourth Round
So far, Yoshihito Nishioka has surpassed his best ever outing at the Australian Open, or any grand slam for that matter. What’s more? The Japanese number 1 won all of his matches in straight sets. However, compared to the players he has faced so far, Karen Khachanov will be a relatively tougher opponent. It doesn’t help that the Russian won three of four meetings between these players. That said, we think Nishioka’s Australian Open run will end in the fourth round.
