Having safely negotiated their way through the first two rounds at the 2023 renewal of the US Open, both Nicolas Jarry and Alex de Minaur are about to be met with a tough test in the third round. On Saturday afternoon (British Summer Time), the pair will face off at Flushing Meadows, but who will come out on top? You can find our tennis tips below.

Our favourite Nicolas Jarry vs Alex de Minaur predictions

Two improving players will clash here. Both Jarry and de Minaur have enjoyed decent 2023’s and this match is the perfect opportunity for both to confirm their progression. Below are my ATP US Open 2023 predictions for this match:

Over 38.5 games @ 10/11

The soundest option ahead of this match looks to be ‘Over 38.5 Games’ at odds of 10/11. Alex de Minaur is quite a strong favourite in the early betting, though his recent record isn’t without blemishes, while Jarry is a tough opponent, so we really shouldn’t assume that this is will be straightforward for the Aussie, despite what the early betting suggests.

We saw de Minaur drop a set against Skatov during the first round, while Jarry has dropped a set in each of his two games at the US Open. There’s not too much between the pair in the rankings and on recent evidence, both have shown enough to suggest that they can test each other here, so we could be in for quite a long battle.

Five Sets to be played @ 5/2

We’ve seen Jarry be involved in lots of long matches on a hard surface recently. In three-set games, he’s been taking it to the death against some very good players such as Tsitsipas and Humbert, so don’t be surprised if he pushes de Minaur all the way here, even if he’s not overly fancied by the early market to come out on top.

Both players are on the rise

Both players have been on the rise this season, so this could be a hardly fought contest. Here’s a quick preview of the two players involved.

Nicolas Jarry preview

It has been a little bit of a mixed bag for Jarry since the switch back to hard-court play. He’s played some solid tennis and has battled well against some of the top players such as world number seven Tsitsipas. He’s managed to find his feet during the early rounds of this tournament, winning in four sets in both the first round and the second round, victories which should leave the 27-year-old Chilean feeling confident ahead of this match. He’ll be bidding to beat his personal best of reaching the third round with a win.

Alex de Minaur preview

24-year-old de Minaur has enjoyed the best season of his career this time around, there’s no doubt about that. The Aussie won the Mexican Open back in February, before playing some super grass-court tennis to reach the final at Queens, beating the likes of Casper Ruud before losing to world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the final. He’s since reached two more finals too, both on a hard surface, which bodes well ahead of this US Open match. He was an easy winner last time out, but did drop a set during his first round match with Skatov, so we shouldn’t too surprised if he’s tested by Jarry, who is also a solid competitor.

Jarry vs de Minaur head to head

This will be just the second time that the pair have met. The last time they faced off was back in 2019, when Alex de Minaur won by two sets to nil in Mexico.
