Michael Mmoh Australian Open 2023: Odds, next match and predictions

Run through our Mmoh Australian Open 2023 predictions presented right here.

Michael Mmoh Australian Open 2023 Odds

Mmoh became only the fifth lucky loser to reach round 3 of the Australian Open. He entered the draw only thanks to Goffin pulling out. Mmoh grabbed this chance and with the help of luck secured 2 tough wins, in both of which he had to come back from behind. Mmoh’s run so far has all the characteristics of a fairytale, but is this story coming to an end soon. Here are the current outright odds:

It’s obvious that from the those left in the tournament Mmoh is the least favoured to win the title. In all honesty even he probably doesn’t believe he has a shot.

Upcoming match vs Wolf – Mmoh Australian Open 2023

Mmoh will definitely enter this match feeling as he has nothing to lose. He was all but on the plane back home after losing in the qualifying tournament, then came from the brink in round 1 and only got better in his second match.

Still this was the first time in over 5 years Mmoh was able to achieve back-to-back wins on the tour. Also throughout the entire 2022 he recorded just 1 win against a top 100 opponent. Mmoh lost both previous matches vs. Wolf too, but the last of those matches was in 2021 and neither of the games was in an ATP event.

We simply don’t think Mmoh has another big win in him so we expect him to lose. However, what matters is what Mmoh believes and so far he has shown that he’s not giving up no matter what he faces.

Mmoh 2023 Australian Open Results

  • Mmoh vs Lokoli – Won – 4-6, 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-2 (2023 Australia Open 1st Round)
  • Wolf vs Zverev – Won – 6-7 (1), 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 (2023 Australian Open 2nd Round)

Goffin’s withdrawal gave Mmoh a lucky loser spot in round 1. He then looked out in 3 sets against qualifier Lokoli, but after saving several match points to win dramatic third set tiebreak Mmoh went on to achieve his first ever 5-set victory.

In round 2 Mmoh made the most of his opportunity against the 12th seed Zverev, who lacked fitness and battled his own demons as he was trying to make a return from prolonged injury. Mmoh again lost the first set, but then won 3 sets in a row. The main reason for that the 8 breaks of serve he recorded. All this thanks to some aggressive returns.

Mmoh Injury update: Looking fit, but tired

Mmoh doesn’t carry any visible injuries.  However, after 2 very exhausting matches he’s starting to feel tired. Due to that it was reported Mmoh had spent 6 hours with masseurs on the eve of his round 3 match in attempt to loosen his tight muscles.

Mmoh Past Australian Open Results

This is Mmoh’s fifth main draw appearance at the Australian Open. He was eliminated in round 1 in his first 2 appearances in 2017 and 2019, but managed to make it to round 2 in 2020 and 2021. Clearly the current run is his best ever in Australia. In fact its his best ever in any Grand Slam.

Mmoh Australian Open 2023 Prediction – 3rd Round

Mmoh will fight, scramble, hit winners, engage the crowd and entertain everyone but we still believe that his memorable run will come to an end in round 3. He already spent huge amounts of energy just reaching here, so it’s logical to expect his run to come to an end soon.

In any case the deepest ever Australian Open run by a lucky loser was Stephan Robert’s run in 2014. Mmoh would love to match that, but we don’t think he has enough left in the tank to record another come-from-behind victory.
