Mackenzie Mcdonald vs Yoshihito Nishioka Prediction and Odds: Australian Open

Mackenzie Mcdonald’s reward for beating Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open second round is a contest with Yoshito Nishioka. After beating Nadal, Mcdonald effectively takes Nadal seeding meaning he will be facing players who were lined up to play the world number one. Ahead of the third-round match, we’ve made a couple of predictions that might interest you.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Mackenzie Mcdonald vs Yoshihito Nishioka– Match Predictions

We’re anticipating this to be a close match. Although Nishioka is arguably playing the best tennis of his career, Mackenzie Mcdonald is coming into the match on the back of the biggest win of his career. Both men are flying and will fancy their chances. Let’s take a closer look at our predictions:

Prediction 1 – Nishioka to Win

At the start of the year, Nishioka reached a career-high 33rd in the ATP World Rankings. It was on the back of a solid end to 2022 which was topped off by reaching the 2022 Citi Open final. It was the first time in his career that he had reached the final of an ATP 500 event, beating Rublev on the way.

He made it to the semi-finals in Adelaide in the tournament before the Australian Open and has made light work of his opening two rounds in the first grand slam of the year. Although Mcdonald was impressive against Nadal, Nishioka should get the job done here.

Prediction 2 – Total Sets: 5

Although we believe that Nishioka will win, we expect it to go the distance. Mcdonald won a grueling five-set match in round one against fellow American, Brandon Nakashima so certainly has the legs and the appetite for a long match. He should also be feeling fresh after beating Nadal in straight sets last time out. Nishioka is yet to drop a set at the Australian Open but that should change here.

Mackenzie Mcdonald vs Yoshihito Nishioka Preview

Neither player is seeded at the tournament so let’s get to know them both a little bit better.

Mackenzie Mcdonald

Mcdonald was tipped for big things when he was coming through the ranks as a teenager. He had enjoyed a successful period as a junior but has yet to set the tennis world on fire as a professional. It was only last year, at the age of 26, that he managed to break into the world’s top 50 but he has since dipped back out again. His best grand slam performance came at this event in 2021 when he reached the fourth round.

Yoshito Nishioka

Nishioka currently sits 33rd in the ATP rankings after a good end to 2022. The Japanese lefty is known for his tireless brand of tennis and is a match for anyone on his day. He has never made it past the third round of a grand slam event but will be feeling confident of ending that tonight .

Mackenzie Mcdonald vs Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
