Emma Raducanu to win
Indian Wells is the first event that Raducanu has played since the Australian Open after suffering with a wrist injury for a couple of months. Despite doubts about her fitness, she swatted away Danka Kovinic in the first round a couple of days ago in emphatic fashion, winning 6-2, 6-3. She enjoys playing on the hard courts in the USA and we are predicting that she’ll narrowly beat Linette and progress through to the third round.

Despite there being over 50 spaces between the pair in the WTA rankings, this will be a close contest. Raducanu has the ability to be a top-10 player consistently, she just needs to get over her fitness issues and perhaps learn to dig in a little more when things aren’t going to plan. Linette is the world number 21 for a reason and is a seasoned pro at the age of 31. Regardless of who comes out on top, we can’t see either player winning in straight sets as there is just so little between the pair.

Magda Linette had a sensational start to 2023 when she made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne. She followed that up by reaching the quarter-finals at the Merida Open in Mexico. Her performances this year have meant that she has risen to a career-high of 21st in the world rankings.
The Pole has had a solid career without ever threatening the top stars of the sport, although that could be about to change after her performances this year. Her favourite surface is clay, which makes her early-season hard court performances even more impressive.

We all know Emma Raducanu as the girl who shocked the world in 2021 when she won the US Open as a teenager. Since her triumph in New York, she has battled through a number of injury problems and has failed to get close to the heights she reached at Flushing Meadows.
She entered 2023 with a determined attitude to return to that sort of form but a wrist injury has stalled her season somewhat. She will be desperate to overcome a top player this week and this match against Linette gives her the chance to do just that.
