Magda Linette Australian Open 2023: Odds, Next Match and Predictions

Magda Linette came into this year’s edition of the Australian Open as a heavy underdog. The 30 year old has defied the odds however, knocking out four seeded players en route to her first ever semi-final outing. Can she continue her impressive run? Let’s take a look at her chances.

Australian Open 2023 Odds

These are Magda Linette’s odds of hoisting the Australian Open this year:

The odds in this article were correct at the time of writing, and odds are subject to change. We recommend checking with the bookmaker before placing the bet.

Interestingly, Magda Linette was priced at a massive 50/1 prior to her round of 16 clash with Caroline Garcia. However, those  odds were slashed to 20/1 ahead of the quarterfinals, and she can now be backed at 9/1. At these odds, it’s important to point out that Linette is the least favoured of four remaining players. That said, we would do well to take a look at her performance so far.

Previous Rounds – Magda Linette Australian Open 2023

Magda Linette went up against Mayar Sherif in the first round, defeating her in straight sets. In the second round, she surrendered the first set to Anett Kontaveit, but ultimately defeated the 19th ranked player in three sets.

Magda Linette took out 18th ranked Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round, breaking her opponent four times en route to a straight sets victory.

In perhaps her best result of the season, Linette defeated fourth seeded Caroline Garcia in straight sets, setting up a quarter-final clash with Karolina Pliskova. Despite having lost five of six previous meetings with the Czech player, Linette came out on top in straight sets, booking a place in a grand slam semi-final for the first time in her career.

Upcoming Match vs Sabalenka – Australian Open 2023

Magda Linette’s next opponent arguably the hottest player on tour right now. She faces Aryna Sabalenka, a player who has a perfect record in 2023, winning all of her nine matches in straight sets. It doesn’t help that Linette has lost two of two clashes with the Belarusian in straight sets. On that note, it’ll be interesting to see how Magda Linette will fare against Sabalenka.

Magda Linette’s Form Prior to Australian Open 2023

Magda Linette played in two tournaments ahead of this year’s Australian Open; she featured in the first ever edition of the United Cup, as well as the Hobart tournament. Interestingly, Linette is coming into this tournament on the back of two consecutive losses; these are her last five results:

  • Linette vs van Uytvanck – lost 2-1
  • Linette vs Keys – lost 2-0
  • Linette vs Bronzetti – won 2-0
  • Linette vs Teichmann – won 2-1
  • Linette vs Kulambayeva – won 2-0

Magda Linette’s Performance At Australian Open in the Past

Prior to this tournament, Magda Linette hadn’t reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, or any grand slam for that matter. Her best result was a third round finish back in 2018, where she succumbed to Denisa Satralova in straight sets. It’s worth noting that Linette has gotten past the first round of this competition just once in five years since then.

Magda Linette Australian Open 2023 Prediction – Semifinals

Although we’ve been impressed with Magda Linette’s performance in this tournament so far, we aren’t entirely sure of her chances against Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian has obliterated every opponent in her path this year, in straight sets. On that note, we believe the road ends in the semifinals for Magda Linette.
