The sixth edition of the Laver Cup begins this Friday, and following what transpired in the previous edition, expectations are high. The event was won for the first time by Team World just as Roger Federer was playing his final match as a professional tennis player.
The incumbent champions will have some changes to their lineup, but they will still be seeking to defend their championship and cut the gap on the European team’s four trophies. The captain and World Ream Players are listed here.

Laver Cup Team World 2023
Three modifications were made to the previous edition. For the first time, both teams will feature four members from the same country. Up to four North Americans will represent Laver Cup Team World 2023. For the first time, no players from a continent other than America will compete.
Team World Captain: John McEnroe
John McEnroe, an American professional tennis player, will lead the defending champions for the sixth year in a row. The seven-time Grand Slam champion may add to his five Laver Cup titles from the previous season, but he needs to reorganize the group with new members to duplicate the accomplishment.
Taylor Fritz
The 25-year-old is adamant about remaining in the top ten of the ATP rankings. Taylor Fritz was the highest-ranked player on Team World, as she was the previous season. This season, he has a record of 49 victories and 20 defeats.
Fritz has competed in three Laver Cups, winning two and losing one. Last year, Fritz defeated British tennis player Cameron Norrie, and his second match against Casper was unnecessary because Auger-Aliassime and Tiafoe flipped the score around and the result was already irrevocable.
France Tiafoe
He was a key figure in the great London recovery. Although Tiafoe lost his first singles encounter to Novak Djokovic, he and Jack Sacks were responsible for defeating Roger Federer in his final doubles match with Rafael Nadal. Tiafoe capped off the third day by winning his doubles match, completing Team World’s victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Tommy Paul
He will be one of the fresh faces on Team World 2023, with his success in Grenada this season already propelling him to a career-high ranking of 13th in August. This season, the 26-year-old has 40 wins and 23 losses.
Felix Auger-Aliassime
At the age of 21, the Canadian player was granted the opportunity to compete in his first Laver Cup, and this is his third appearance. Auger-Aliassime, like Tiafoe, played a key role in Team World’s victory. Individually, Felix has struggled this season, but he will be unable to compete in the Laver Cup in 2023.
Ben Shelton
Ben Shelton’s rise in the ATP rankings has been dizzying. Last year he was still playing Challenger matches and in the current season, he has dared to participate in the best tournaments of professional tennis.
With a lot of daring, the 20-year-old has achieved important performances such as reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, and his most recent achievement being a semi-finalist at the US Open. That performance earned him a spot among the Laver Cup Team World representatives.
Francisco Cerundolo
The Argentine player is one of only two non-Americans on the Laver Cup Team World. He is also the second player from his country to be selected for this squad, following Diego Schwartzman, who has played in three previous editions. Cerundulo currently sits at No. 21 in the ATP rankings.
