It’s always interesting when two players from the same country go up against one another. And in this one, it’s the battle of the Serbian players, only one is looking far more likely to progress to the 4th round than the other. So, what are my tennis predictions today for Djere vs Djokovic? Find out below.
Our favourite Laslo Djere vs Novak Djokovic predictions
Contents
As the number two seed, Novak Djokovic is a heavy favourite to beat Laslo Djere in this match. Because of that, there is zero value in simply backing Djokovic to win. Yet interestingly, there are surprisingly good odds for a couple of ambitious markets right now. So with that in mind, take a look at my ATP US Open 2023 predictions for this third-round match here:
Under 27.5 games @ 23/20 (2.15)
This is the lowest number of games I’ve seen for the ‘game totals’ markets at the US Open, especially for third-round matches. However, Djokovic has looked very impressive so far, and he has won both of his opening two matches in less than 27.5 games.
Djokovic -9.5 games handicap @ 5/4 (2.25)
There are two reasons that I am going for this market. Firstly, it’s the perfect complement to the under 27.5 games market above. Secondly, Djokovic is the best returner of serve that the sport has ever seen, so he could secure enough breaks of serve against Djere to produce such a handicap.
The odds in this article were correct at the time of writing, and the odds are subject to change. We recommend checking with your bookmaker before placing a bet.
Djokovic poised to make it 2-0 over his Serbian compatriot
Before backing these two markets, if you wish to know a bit more about each player, read these brief previews prior to the start of the match.
Laslo Djere preview
Laslo Djere is not a bad player whatsoever. In fact, he is currently ranked 38 in the world, and he has taken a set from Djokovic in their one and only meeting back in 2022. As for his performances at the 2023 US Open so far, the 32 seed has beaten both Nakashima and Gaston in straight sets.
Novak Djokovic preview
I’m sure you don’t need much of a preview for the three-time US Open champion. Djokovic is the 2nd seed, the number 2 in the world, and many would say that he is the favourite to win the 2023 US Open. Of course, he is in fine form too. He won the Cincinnati Masters event just before the US Open, and he has been prolific in his opening two rounds, dropping just 11 games in 6 sets.
Djere vs Djokovic head to head
There aren’t too many players on the ATP Tour who Djokovic has a losing record against. Yet against Djere, the head-to-head is just 1-0 in favour of Djokovic. This meeting was actually in Serbia in 2022, and Djokovic needed three sets to beat Djere in that one.
