Karen Khachanov vs Jason Kubler Prediction and Odds: Australian Open

An Australian playing in front of his passionate home fans can never be written off and we could be in for an entertaining clash as 18th seed, Russia’s Karen Khachanov, takes on Brisbane-born, Jason Kubler.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Karen Khachanov vs Jason Kubler – Match Predictions

Both players came through their first round matches in straight sets with Khachanov eliminating Bernabe Zapata Mirallas and Kubler seeing off Sebastian Baez. Will we be in for another three-setter or will this one go the distance?

Total Sets – 3 Sets

Although he is sure to be backed by some noisy locals on the John Cain Arena, Kubler is ranked 64 places beneath Kachanov and has a dismal Australian Open record. He was knocked out in the first round in 2018 and 2019 before failing to qualify in 2020, 2021 and 2022. This year is the first time that he has won a match in the proper draw in Melbourne but we expect Kachanov to dominate the big moments in each set.

Set 1 Tie Break – Yes

Both players had close first sets before going on to win in three on Monday. Khachanov was taken to a tie break with Kubler securing the set 6-4 with one break. We predict some nervy early exchanges with Kubler raising his level thanks to the backing of the home crowd. Khachanov lost only one service game in the first round and we expect the pair to trade service holds throughout the first set.
