Although he had a stupendous victory in which he was 2 sets down against Brandon Nakashima, Thompson managed to win three straight sets to get out of the first round. In the second round, he was not as fortunate as he came up against Serbian Novak Djokovic.
As at Wimbledon, Jordan’s first opponent in Newport was an American player, this time Aleksandar Kovacevic. Thompson completely dominated his opponent and converted a total of 6 break points to win 6-0 6-1 in just 1 hour and 6 minutes.
Liam Broady
The British tennis player has 26 wins and 15 losses this season. His best performance was at the Vinicius Challenger where he won the title. However, Broady was trending after knocking out Casper Ruud in the third round of Wimbledon.
The 29-year-old maintained a great level in the first round against Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki. With 2 break points in the first set, Broady won 6-1. In the second set, he repeated the same procedure and although he lost a serve, he won 7-5.
