Isner vs Mannarino – Match Predictions
Contents
The stage is set for a rather feisty opening round between Isner and Mannarino. Amazingly, this will be the 10th time that these guys share a court in their careers. And if you are a John Isner fan, the 8-1 head-to-head record against Mannarino will fill you with confidence. By the way – the one ‘win’ for Mannarino was due to an Isner retirement. So in reality, Isner has never lost to the Frenchman when the match has been finished.
With that said, both of these guys are in the twilight of their careers. Isner is 37 years of age and Mannarino is 34. They’ve been around the block you could say, and they’ve both made countless appearances at the Australian Open in the past. Yet there is some hope for Mannarino fans, as he made the 4th round last year compared to a first-round exit for Isner.
Then again, taking everything into account, here is how I think this game will play out:
Total Games – Over 42.5
Whenever John Isner is involved in a match, you can be sure that he will breeze through most service games. He also plays a ton of tie-break sets, which is why I’m going for this match to have over 42.5 games. This links in with my other prediction for the match, as both complement one another.
Mannarino To Win A Set – Yes
Although Mannarino hasn’t had much success against Isner in his career, I think last year showed that he likes the courts at Melbourne Park. Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mannarino did step up and secure a set against the American. I say this because Mannarino is able to stand far behind the baseline in order to make plenty of returns at Melbourne Park.
Isner vs Mannarino Preview
How does the preview look for each of these guys going into this first-round clash? Let me share some specifics that will be of interest:
John Isner Preview
With Isner being 37 years of age, we don’t really know how many more times we will see him at the Australian Open. On that note, he has lost his first-round match in three of his last four appearances in this event. Yet due to his serve, he is always a threat – especially on the quick and high-bouncing courts at this tournament.
Adrian Mannarino Preview
Mannarino has been in poor form recently, that much is clear from his last five matches. In fact, he’s won only a few matches since the 2022 US Open. This won’t give him heaps of confidence for this match. Yet since he makes plenty of balls in court, he has the ability to grind through matches and frustrate his opponents.
Isner vs Mannarino Head to Head
As mentioned earlier, Isner has an 8-1 head-to-head record against Adrian Mannarino. And the one and only registered loss was a withdrawal from Isner. So really, Isner absolutely dominates Mannarino in the head-to-head department.
