Jiri Lehecka vs Borna Coric Preview
After making our Lehecka vs Coric predictions it’s time to take a closer look at the two players individually as they enter Australian Open 2023:
Jiri Lehecka
The world number 78 Lehecka had his first year as a top 150 player in 2022. All started with successful qualifying run to the 2022 Australian Open main draw. This was Lehecka’s Grand Slam debut. The Czech then reached his first ATP semi-final on his ATP debut in Rotterdam in February. This helped him to enter the top 100, but from that point on his results stagnated and he didn’t make another deep run in any other tournament.
Borna Coric
The world number 23 Coric missed 5 of the last 7 Grand Slams due to a shoulder injury. This included the 2022 Australian Open, but gradually as his health improved in 2022 his form did too. Coric achieved his highest ranking of 12 in August when becoming the lowest ranked ever player to win a Masters 1000. On the way to his title in Cincinnati he defeated all of Nadal, Bautista Agut, Auger-Aliassime, Norrie and Tsitsipas. This re-established Coric as one of the most talented players on the tour.
The Croat knows how to win on the big stage already. He has made it past round 1 in 8 of his last 10 Grand Slam appearances. In 2019 he reached the fourth round in Australia.
