Jessica Pegula vs Victoria Azarenka Prediction and Odds: Australian Open

We are into the Quarter Finals at the Australian Open with 3rd-seed Jessica Pegula taking on 24th-seed Victoria Azarenka. It’s been a big resurgence of Grand Slam form by Azarenka. But can she stop one of the leading US players?

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Jessica Pegula vs Victoria Azarenka – Match Predictions

The pressure is on now as both players strive to continue a march towards a potential first Grand Slam title. Read our tennis predictions for the Jessica Pegula vs Victoria Azarenka Quarter Final match.

Under 21.5 Games

Even though there is big pressure on this match, the form of Jess Pegula is sparkling at the moment and she is the one tipped to get through. She dismantled the game of top competitor Barbora Krejciovka in the previous round and we  expect the leading American player to push on in a similar sort of fashion next.

Pegula has continued her excellent form from some good United Cup performances earlier this year. That included a victory over world number one Iga Swiatek. She’s confident and steaming along right now and can settle this match fairly comfortably.

Jess Pegula 2-0 Set Betting

Backing up the expectation of this being a fairly comfortable victory for Pegula, we can push for a little longer value in the 2-0 correct score for her. Pegula hasn’t dropped a set in this draw and looks like a huge threat to the rest of the remaining field now.

In contrast, Azarenka has had to dig deep in the last couple of rounds to scrap her way through to the Quarter Finals. It could be a big ask for her to have enough in the tank to get on the board against Pegula and we don’t see that happening, but take caution since Azarenka is certainly a player who has enough experience to get by on it alone.

Jessica Pegula vs Victoria Azarenka Preview

With our tennis predictions for this Quarter Final fixture in the women’s draw, we now dip into the current form and AO history of the contenders.

Jess Pegula

America’s Jess Pegula has bowed out at the quarter-final stage in her last two campaigns in Melbourne. She looks to have a good chance of breaking through that barrier for the first time. 2022 was a big year for her, reaching the Quarter Final stage in three of the four Slams. She won all of her matches earlier this month in the United Cup and the third-seed has looked untroubled so far, not conceding a set.

Victoria Azarenka

Victoria Azarenka has been stuck on just two Grand Slam titles since early 2013. The two Slam crowns she has earned in her career happened at Melbourne Park. Since the 2013 US Open Final defeat, she has only been back to only Slam Final. She did exit at the Fourth Round stage last year at the AO. Azarenka started this campaign in hot form but dropped sets against Madison Keys and Zhe Lin in the last two rounds so has put in a lot of extra time on the court.

Jessica Pegula vs Victoria Azarenka Head to Head

The current head-to-head is at two wins each. Their very first meeting was in the 2021 Australian Open, which Pegula won in straight sets. The most recent was a victory for Pegula in Guadalajara last year. Three of the four previous matches were settled in two sets, which is another reason why we don’t see this match going to three sets either.
