J.J. Wolf vs Marton Fucsovics Match Predictions
Contents
Wolf and Fucsovics will battle to win their first Masters 1000 match since April 2022. The young American has been in very good form recently, while the Hungarian veteran will try to pull off a repeat of his solid Australian Open run.
Wolf to Win
The 24-year old from Cincinnati is enjoying a very good start to 2023. After a breakout performance at the end of last year, which saw him reach his first final at the ATP Tour level, Wolf continued his rise with a maiden quarter final appearance at the Australian Open. The former college star also reached the semi finals in Dallas.
While Wolf is coming off a first round loss in Acapulco, momentum is still on his side. The American also won against Fucsovics in their only encounter so far, making him the favorite heading into the match.
Total Sets: 3
Fucsovics won at least one set in three of his four on-court losses. While the American plays an aggressive brand of tennis, usually going for winners, Fucsovics is often happy to draw his opponents into long rallies. The Hungarian veteran excels on defense, knowing exactly when to slow things down and when to raise his tempo and go for the winning shot.
Fucsovics will have some chances to pounce on Wolf’s errors, and that could very well lead to another three-setter – the same result as their first meeting.
J.J. Wolf vs Marton Fucsovics Preview
Now, let’s take a look at how Wolf and Fucsovics have done in recent tournaments.
J.J. Wolf
After sitting out the 2021 season, Wolf returned to action last year. The former Ohio State Buckeye made his way up the rankings, reaching his first ATP 250 final in October, at the Firenze Open.
The 24-year old American carried his positive momentum into 2023, advancing to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. Combined with his semifinals appearance at the Dallas Open, Wolf broke into the top 40 for the first time. He now aims to match his career best Masters 1000 result, a second round appearance. With an aggressive style, Wolf isn’t afraid to go for winners, even if it does cost some points with the occasional unforced error.
Marton Fucsovics
The experienced Hungarian is still hanging around the top 100. After an early exit at Wimbledon last year, failing to repeat his 2021 quarter finals appearance Fucsovics dropped down the rankings.
He quickly bounced back with a brief tour around the Challenger level, playing in three tournaments and winning two titles. Fucosivcs then had his best showing of the year in Melbourne. The 34-year old reached the third round, building up a 2-0 lead against Jannik Sinner and nearly pulling off the upset, but he ultimately lost to the Italian in five sets. Despite his age, Fucsovics is still a very athletic player, capable of extending rallies and frustrating his opponents.
J.J. Wolf vs Marton Fucsovics Head to Head
This will be their second meeting at the Tour level, but the first in a main draw. Wolf won a three-setter (7-5 3-6 6-4) in the second qualifying round at the Vienna Open last year.
