It was a very one-sided affair when this pair were drawn against each other in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters a couple of weeks ago. Liu will be wondering why she always gets drawn against Swiatek and will have to find a new way to play against her opponent after claiming only one game last time. We expect the Polish world number one to come out of the traps hard, take control early, and to drop only one game in the first set.

Although their first clash, back in 2019, lasted 29 games and three sets in New Zealand, that was before Swiatek had reached a fourth round of a Grand Slam let alone secured three titles! Ranked number one in the world and the top seed in Miami, Iga Swiatek became the youngest player to complete the ‘Sunshine Double’ – winning the Indian Wells and Miami Open back to back – last year. She is a three-time Grand Slam Champion with two of those titles gained over the last 12 months – 2022 French Open, 2022 US Open.

Claire Liu Preview

Ranked 59th in the world, just down from her personal best of 52 at the end of January this year, Liu has never got beyond the second round of either a Grand Slam or a WTA 1000 event. She reached the second round of the 2023 Australian Open in January before losing in straight sets to the 12th seed, Belinda Bencic.
