Finally, some of the top dogs who featured in my 2024 Madrid Open preview are starting to meet one another. In this 4th round match we have Hurkacz against Fritz in what I expect will be a close game. That said, I’ve analysed the form book to supply some solid predictions below.

Our favourite Hubert Hurkacz vs Taylor Fritz predictions

At the end of the day, one of these seeded players will make it into the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open. But based on the head to head standings between these two and their similar game styles, this game has every chance of going right down to the wire. This makes my tennis predictions today tough to call.

But I’ve dug deep into their recent performances and individual statistics to establish the following tips:

Fritz to win @ 5/6 (1.83)

I’m going with Fritz to beat Hurkacz for a few reasons. Firstly, he’s looked confident and solid in his first two matches, taking out Darderi and Baez in straight sets. Secondly, I think he’s a better overall clay court player compared with Hurkacz. He moves slightly better, and he’s able to mix up the play a bit more than his higher-ranked opponent.

Over 25.5 games @ 19/20 (1.95)

I’ve said that Taylor Fritz will win this match, but it could be a very tight contest. With both guys possessing massive serves, the sets will naturally be close, as backed up by the 7-6 7-6 scoreline in their previous meeting. Additionally, with both guys seemingly playing well, I can see this match going into a deciding set.

Hubert Hurkacz vs Taylor Fritz odds

The latest odds indicate a win probability of 52.40% for Hurkacz compared with a 54.50% chance for Fritz – very close indeed!

Battle of the big servers coming up at 2024 Madrid Open

Before this game commences on April 30th, let me share a few bits of key information to help bolster the predictions given above.

Hubert Hurkacz preview

Hubert Hurkacz is not a clay court player, despite the fact that he has scored some decent wins on this surface. He has a big serve and a huge forehand, but in terms of the ability to grind and mix up the play, he’s far from the best out there. Then again, he hasn’t dropped a set so far, which is promising for the 8th seed.

Taylor Fritz preview

Fritz seems to perform well in Madrid for whatever reason. And once again, he’s looked decent in his opening matches. This was particularly true against the 18th seed, Baez, in his last round. For me, Baez is a great clay court player, yet Fritz took him out with the loss of just five games – showing the kind of form he’s in.

Hurkacz vs Fritz head to head

Hurkacz and Fritz have faced each other three times on the ATP Tour. And it’s Fritz who holds the lead over the Pole with a 2-1 record. As for their most recent encounter, this was in the United Cup in 2023 – a match that Fritz won 7-6 7-6.
