Ben Shelton to win @ 2/1 (3.00)
Ben Shelton really did take his game to the next level against Tommy Paul last time out. It would have been quite easy for the youngster to start cautiously, but did he do that? Absolutely not. Shelton came out fired up and took the fight to his higher-ranked opponent, showing no fear, and the powerhouse simply had too much for Paul to deal with, suffocating the world number 14 with his hard-hitting style. After such a performance, Shelton looks destined for bigger and better things, so much so that he looks a great bet to win this match too.
Tiafoe is a top player, make no mistake about that, but he too may find Shelton just too hot to handle right now. Not only has Shelton created the more positive impression at this tournament, but it was he who beat Karatsev in better fashion that Tiafoe did recently, so don’t be surprised to see the 20-year-old come out on top. Ultimately, odds of 2/1 look a little generous, so there’s value to be had.
Over 41.5 games @ 23/20 (2.15)
As much as I like Shelton for the win here at odds of 2/1, a short match seems far from likely, so much so that a bet on more than 41 games to be played catches the eye. This could be a long one, as both players look strong on serve, so we really could see a battle too the death. Shelton got it done in four sets against Paul, but against this tougher opponent, five sets could very easily be on the cards, so expect to see plenty of games here.

Frances Tiafoe preview
There’s been a real sense of getting the job done from Frances Tiafoe at this tournament. The 25-year-old knows he can cut it with the best at this tournament after reaching the semi-final here last year and is likely to fancy himself more than ever after a pleasing 2023. He won in uncompromising style against Hijikata last time out and looks ready for what should be a serious battle here.

Like Tiafoe, Shelton has gone from strength to strength this season and is now starting to look like a player who may just be a little bit special. After quite some time, could the US finally have someone to seriously challenge for Grand Slams? The way in which Shelton has completely overpowered his opposition at this tournament suggests that he could be the man to take American male tennis to the next level, but first, he’ll need to prove himself against a very good opponent. Shelton is in great form having won five of his last six on this surface.
