Elena Rybakina vs Danielle Collins Prediction and Odds: Australian Open

We could be in for a classic contest on Friday in Melbourne as two players ranked in the top 25 of women’s tennis, Elena Rybakina and Danielle Collins go head to head in round three.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Elena Rybakina vs Danielle Collins – Match Predictions

Both players are seeded in the draw and, even though Collins has the higher seeding, there is no guarantee that she will sail through this round. Let’s take a look in detail at what we expect to happen.

Elena Rybakina To Win

Although she is up against the 2022 beaten finalist, Rybakina won the last meeting between the two players, in Adelaide, earlier this year. Furthermore, Rybakina has cruised through her first two rounds, dropping eight games in the first round before destroying Kaja Juvan 6-2 6-1.

Both of Collins’ wins have come over three sets and she was knocked out of the doubles in the first round on Thursday as well. We expect Rybakina to be fresher, playing a better standard of tennis and to win this match.

Either Player to Lose The First Set And Win The Match – Yes

Both of the previous matches between Rybakina and Collins have been close, indeed, Rybakina came back from losing the first set 7-5 before winning the match in Adelaide. The first three sets between the players were either 12 of 13 matches long and there is no guarantee that triumphing in the first set on Friday will take one of these players through to the fourth round. Collins lost her first set on Wednesday yet still progressed to this tie.

Elena Rybakina vs Danielle Collins Preview

Both players have strong Grand Slam records so, let’s pick up some additional tips for our tennis predictions, by zooming in on those here:

Elena Rybakina

Kazakhstan’s Rybakina is currently ranked 25th in the world, down from her career highest ranking of 12 this time last year. The six foot 23 year old is appearing in her second Australian Open third round, but is the current Wimbledon Champion after beating Ons Jabeur over three sets in SW17 last summer. Her only other Grand Slam of note was the French Open in 2021 where she reached the last eight.

Danielle Collins

The Florida born 29 year old saw her world ranking peak at number 7 last July and is currently in 12th position. Danielle Collins has won two WTA Singles Titles but is yet to win a Grand Slam. She got closest last year when she went all the way to the final only to be defeated in straight sets by Ash Barty. The Australian Open has been her most successful Grand Slam and she also reached the Semi-Final in 2019.

Elena Rybakina vs Danielle Collins Head to Head

This is the second time these players have gone head to head with the current score level at 1-1. Collins beat Rybakina 7-6 7-6 in San Jose in 2021, before they met again earlier this month in Adelaide. This time it was Rybakina who came out on top after losing the first set to win 5-7 6-2 6-3.
