Vekic and Fruhirtova face off in one of the most unlikely fourth round matches of this year’s Australian Open. Who will advance to the quarterfinals? Check our predictions and the best bets available.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Donna Vekic vs Linda Fruhvirtova Match Predictions

All seeded players on Vekic and Fruhirtova’s quarter of the bracket, which included WTA #2 Ons Jabeur, were already out of the tournament by the third round. And in this tournament filled with upsets, the pairing managed to advance into the second week to face off in what promises to be a very entertaining match.

Fruhirtova to Win

This match is tricky to predict, but Fruhirtova’s style could give her the slight upperhand. The Czech teen has exceeded at long rallies, always finding an answer to her opponents’ shots. Fruhirtova can force Vekic into unforced errors on longer exchanges, and that could be the deciding factor in this match.

Again, it’s going to be a back-and-forth match, but I’m still backing Fruhirtova despite her relative inexperience at majors.

Fruhirtova +2.5

As the underdog heading into this match, Fruhirtova is naturally carrying a positive handicap. Since we are backing her win, it also makes sense to take these odds. But even if she ends up losing the match, the +2.5 handicap in a close contest could still make up for it, saving a winning bet for the day.

The 17-year old has been in great form this slam, having only dropped one set. Having just won against a former slam finalist in Marketa Vondrousova, Fruhirtova is carrying a lot of positive momentum heading into the second week.

Donna Vekic vs Linda Fruhvirtova Match Preview

Now that our predictions for this match have been laid out, let’s take a look at how Vekic and Fruhirtova got to the Australian Open’s second week.

Donna Vekic

Vekic bounced back in 2022 after a trying 2021. The Croat underwent a knee surgery shortly after the Australian Open that year, and took a while to regain her form. She dropped out of the top 100 and had to fight her way up the ranks again.

Now back inside the top 60, the former #19 has tied her career best result in Melbourne. The 26-year old has kept the unforced errors to a minimum while being extremely efficient during return games. Vekic has only dropped one set all tournament.

Linda Fruhvirtova

The 17-year old from Prague has been one of the biggest surprises this tournament. Yet another name among a promising group of youngsters on the WTA Tour, Fruhvirtova broke Coco Gauff’s record for the youngest ever player to be ranked inside the top 100, shortly after capturing her first WTA Tour title.

The moment simply doesn’t seem to big for the teenager sensation: Fruhvirtova has exceled at rallies, outlasting her much more experienced opponents. In her third round win over compatriot and former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova, the 17-year old kept her composure and came back from a break down to win the first set. It was just another example of her mindset heading into week 2.

Vekic vs Fruhvirtova head to head

Unsurprisingly, this will mark their first head to head match at the WTA Tour.
