Ready for the upcoming quarter-final matches in the 2024 San Diego Open? Today I’ve chosen to supply a couple of predictions for the clash between Donna Vekic and Katie Boulter – the 7th seed against an unseeded Brit. Which way will it swing? Let me give my two cents now.
Our favourite Donna Vekic vs Katie Boulter predictions
Contents
If you track our updates concerning Katie Boulter’s next match, you’ll be aware that she produced a huge win in the previous round. She took out the 2nd seed, Haddad Maia, in a three set thriller. However, she now faces another seed in the form of Donna Vekic, who did go three sets with a qualifier in round two.
With these factors in mind, I’ve chosen the following two predictions for this match tonight:
Boulter to win @ 19/20 (1.95)
The fact that Katie Boulter took down the number 2 seed in the previous round is significant. Additionally, Vekic hasn’t looked in top form, especially in the previous round when she went the distance against a qualifier. So for me, it seems logical that the first of my tennis predictions today is to go for the underdog to win.
Over 21.5 games @ 4/5 (1.80)
I’ve chosen to go with Boulter to win this match, but I believe it will be a very close encounter regardless. For that reason, I think that the over 21.5 games market is a good one to cover. This market could pull through if the match consists of two tight sets or if the match goes three sets.
Donna Vekic vs Katie Boulter odds
With very similar moneyline odds, Boulter has an implied chance of 51.30% to win, while the probability for Vekic is 57.10%.
Will Boulter blast her way past Vekic and reach the San Diego semis?
To complement the predictions shared above, I’d like to now provide a quick preview for each of these players ahead of the action this evening.
Donna Vekic preview
Vekic is the higher-ranked player of these two at 28 in the world, and she is also the 7th seed at the San Diego Open. Furthermore, she’s been more successful than Boulter in her career as a whole, boasting a career-high of 19. That said, her last round wasn’t overly convincing, and she’s facing a Brit with nothing to lose here.
Katie Boulter preview
I have to say, Katie Boulter was very impressive in her previous match against Beatriz Haddad Maia. This was a huge result for her, and despite being 49 in the world at the moment, she produced some truly top-level tennis. Then again, while she will carry plenty of confidence coming into this game, she’s got to find that level again to produce another upset.
Vekic vs Boulter head to head
Vekic and Boulter have yet to compete in an official WTA tournament, so the head-to-head slate is totally clean between these two.
