Dominic Thiem vs Adrian Mannarino Predictions and Odds: Indian Wells

Dominic Thiem vs Adrian Mannarino Match Predictions

These two ATP Tour veterans are no strangers to one another, having already met eight times. But while their head to head matchup is heavily lopsided towards Thiem, their careers have gone in opposite directions since their most recent meeting, which happened two years ago. While Mannarino has hung around the top 70, Thiem has struggled to bounce back from the wrist injury sustained in their last encounter. The former Major champion has dropped out of the top 100 again at the start of 2023.

Mannarino to Win

Mannarino’s lone win came at the Mallorca Open in 2021, after Thiem retired from the match while leading. Under normal circumstances, however, the Frenchman has not managed to triumph over the Austrian.

Things do look significantly different this time around, though. Mannarino had a rough January, but bounced back last month by reaching the quarter finals in Delray Beach and in Dallas. The Frenchman arrives at Indian Wells in much better form than his opponent, who has one win in eight matches this year. Thiem seemed to be on the way up by the end of 2022, but his form has taken another dive at the start of this year.

Mannarino -1.5 Sets

This is a riskier bet, but it’s not difficult to see Mannarino wrapping it up in straight sets. Thiem has only won three sets all year, out of 18 played. With the Austrian still looking for a way out of his struggles, Mannarino is in a good position to win in two sets.

The Frenchman is usually known for his consistent play, often extending points and wearing out his opponent. Thiem’s aggressive style is usually more error-prone, and that has turned into an even bigger problem during this losing streak. Mannarino can build up a lead on the back of Thiem’s mistake to win in two sets.

Dominic Thiem vs Adrian Mannarino Preview

Here is how these two players have made it to the first round at Indian Wells.

Dominic Thiem

It feels like an eternity since Dominic Thiem won his first Slam title. Three years ago at the US Open, the Austrian came back from two sets down to beat Alexander Zverev and finally win his elusive maiden Major. After three runner-up finishes, the then 27-year old looked set to achieve even greater heights. Thiem wrapped up his banner year by reaching the ATP Tour Finals title decider, which he lost to Daniil Medvedev.

It all started to go wrong in 2021, culminating in his serious wrist injury in Mallorca. Thiem has attempted multiple comebacks since then, struggling for consistent results. The Austrian climbed back to the top 100 last year on the back of two semifinal appearances, but has dropped out again following his poor start to 2023.

Adrian Mannarino

The Frenchman has managed to hang around the top 70 over the past few years. At 34, the left-hander has shown no signs of slowing down. In fact, Mannarino won the Winston-Salem Open last year for his second ATP Tour title, ending a three-year drought.

The veteran had a rough start to 2023, with a first round exit in Auckland. He made it to the second round at the Australian Open, but lost to local favorite Alex de Minaur. Mannarino then enjoyed a solid February, with back-to-back quarterfinals appearance at the Delray Beach Open and at the Dallas Open. Although he is coming off a first round exit in Acapulco, he has a chance to reach the second round in California.

Dominic Thiem vs Adrian Mannarino Head to Head

As mentioned earlier, Thiem and Mannarino have already met nine times at the ATP Tour level. Thiem leads the head to head 8-1, having only dropped two sets. Mannarino’s lone win came at the Mallorca Open in 2021 on the back of Thiem’s W.O.
