Denis Shapovalov managed to make it among the Top 10 players in the ATP rankings early in his career. Even though he is not on the level he used to play, the Canadian is still young, and it is just a matter of time before he gets back where he belongs.

Shapovalov is having trouble getting the better of his rivals in the tournament’s main rounds. This was evident in the Rotterdam Open and Dubai Open. At Indian Wells, he showcased some life with a first-round win over Botic Van De Zandschulp but could not maintain his momentum and was ousted by Lorenzo Musetti in a three-set battle.
In the second leg of the Sunshine Double, he will hope that fortune starts to favour him. It will be Shapovalov’s sixth appearance at the Hard Rock Stadium and will be gunning to improve on his semi-final finish earned in the 2019 edition of the Miami Open.

Shapovalov got the better of Stefanos Tsitsipas, announcing to the world that he still has the ability to lock horns with the world’s best. The win allowed him to stretch his H2H record against the Greek ace to 6-2.
He now turns his attention towards Matteo Arnaldi, one of the few rivals he got a win against before his forced away due to injury. The 38-ranked Arnaldi will be confident in his abilities after straight-set wins over Arthur Fils and Alexander Bublik, while also stretching Alcaraz to a deciding set in Indian Wells.
Denis Shapovalov’s 2024 campaign
The first tournament of 2024 that Shapovalov played at was Oakland Open, where he lost at the start to Sebastian Ofner. After that, the same fait awaited the Canadian at the first Grand Slam of the season, Australian Open. In the first round, Shapovalov was eliminated by Jakub Mensik in straight sets.
The first win of the season for Denis came in Montpellier, where he beat Hugo Gaston, but then he lost in the next round to Alexander Bublik. At the Marseille Open, his next tournament, Shapovalov once again lost at the start, with Gaston getting his revenge after a week.
The last tournament for Shapovalov was Rotterdam Open, where the Canadian recorded a couple of wins before finally losing to Gael Monfils. His next chance to get back to his old form is Dubai Open.
Current ATP ranking – where is Shapovalov on the ATP list?
Shapovalov is currently in the 120th place in the ATP rankings, which is clearly much lower than his career-high No. 10. He hasn’t played much so far this season and when he did, he didn’t do that well, so even though he’s coming off a solid 34-26 record last year, the start of 2024 obviously cost him a lot of points on the ATP tour.
