Daniil Medvedev vs Nick Kyrgios Prediction – US Open Round of 16

Two familiar foes will take the court as Medvedev and Kyrgios battle for a place in the quarterfinal. Daniil Medvedev is on a quest to defend his US Open crown, after hoisting the title at Flushing Meadows last year; Nick Kyrgios, on the other hand, has set his sights on a second ATP title this year. Which of these players will emerge victorious here? Read along as we analyse both players’ chances, mentioning the stats and odds along the way.

Medvedev vs Kyrgios US Open Prediction

Medvedev vs Kyrgios Prediction and Betting Tips

This will be the fifth meeting between these players, and their third clash this year. Medvedev knocked out Kyrgios on his way to an Australian Open final berth in January, in a tightly contested four-setter, however, the Australian returned the favour last month, as he defeated Medvedev in maximum sets at Montreal. It’s important to point out that both players reached a grand slam final this year; as Medvedev lost to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final, while Kyrgios did the same against Djokovic at Wimbledon. However, this is Nick Kyrgios’s best performance in the US Open; as has never gotten past the fourth round of this tournament. It’ll be interesting to see how the Australian will match-up against the defending champion here.

Daniil Medvedev vs Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

These players have locked horns four times in the past; Kyrgios leads the head-to-head between these two, having won three of their four clashes.

Nick Kyrgios to win

Daniil Medvedev is the favourite here, and rightly so; he has obliterated every opponent in his way, dispatching everyone in straight sets. However, the Russian tends to fall short whenever he goes up against Nick Kyrgios; as a matter of fact, Kyrgios won three of four skirmishes between these players. Interestingly, like today, Kyrgios was the underdog in all four encounters between these players. The Australian has also looked good in this tournament, dropping just one set in three matches; and taking everything into account, we believe there’s a lot of value in backing Kyrgios for the win.

Daniil Medvedev US Open Analysis

Daniil Medvedev kick-started his US Open campaign with a 6:2, 6:4, 6:0 victory over Stefan Kozlov; in a very one-sided contest where he broke the American eight times. The 26-year-old would go on to win back-to-back matches against Arthur Rinderknech and Wu Yibing, both in straight sets. Medvedev is a great returner, as evidenced by the fact that he has been broken just three times in three matches. It’s worth noting, however, that Medvedev’s previous opponents are all outside the top 50 on the ATP rankings; as Nick Kyrgios will be a relatively tougher opponent for the Russian.

Nick Kyrgios US Open Analysis

Two days ago, Nick Kyrgios dismissed J J Wolf in under two hours; he had previously defeated Benjamin Bonzi and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first two rounds. The Australian has a lethal serve, hitting 51 aces in his last two matches; he will need to bring his best performance if he intends to advance to the next round.
