Daniil Medvedev will be looking to continue his imperious form in the early hours of Saturday morning as he begins his Indian Wells Campaign against Brand Nakashima. Although Medvedev is the heavy favourite, Nakashima is a top-50 player so it’s not going to be plain sailing for the Russian.
These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.
Daniil Medvedev vs Brandon Nakashima – Match Predictions
Contents
Although we are expecting Nakashima to give a good account of himself, we believe that our tips for the match are very solid. Let’s take a closer look at them.
Set 1 total games 9-10
Daniil Medvedev is currently playing as well as he ever has done and is a master on outdoor hard courts. He has won the last three tournaments that he’s played in and is currently on a 14-match winning streak since losing to Sebastian Korda at the Australian Open.
We expect him to win the first 6-3 or 6-4. Nakashima is also in decent form and has a good serve behind him so we don’t think Medvedev will break him too many times. Six out of Medvedev’s last seven opening sets have lasted either nine or ten games so this looks like a good bet at evens.
Under 20.5 total games
This bet is basically a continuation of the first. We don’t believe that Nakashima will throw in the towel if he loses the first set and history supports that argument. However, we can’t see him breaking Medvedev’s serve and the Russian will have enough to get the job done 6-4, 6-4 or better.
Daniil Medvedev vs Brandon Nakashima Preview
Both men are enjoying good form over the past six months, albeit at different levels. Let’s take a closer look at their form and hopes for the tournament.
Daniil Medvedev
It’s fair to say that it didn’t take long for world number six, Daniil Medvedev, to put the Australian Open disappointment behind him. His 14-match winning streak has included victories over Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev and has seen him lift three hard court titles.
When he’s at his best there is arguably only Djokovic on tour who can cope with him. With the clay season approaching thick and fast, Medvedev will be hoping to make the most of events like Indian Wells which is played on his favourite surface.
Brandon Nakashima
Breaking into the world’s top 50 at the age of 21 is pretty impressive but that almost certainly won’t be the ceiling for Brandon Nakashima. He has enough talent and desire to break into the men’s top 10 in the future and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he won a grand slam one day.
He ended 2022 in fine form but has dipped slightly at the start of 2023, which isn’t unusual for a young player. A win against Medvedev in this form would be one of the biggest of his career to date.
