Daniel Evans vs Karen Khachanov – Match Predictions
Contents
Under 21.5 Games
There were 19 games in Evans’ victory over in-form Matteo Arnaldi. Meanwhile, Khachanov needed 20 to get past Czech ace Nicolas Jarry. It was not without drama as the Brit saved all 10 of the breakpoints he accrued while it was five out of eight for Khachanov. Both players are making mistakes, which should see serves being broken. However, given their proficiency in converting, it will not be a long match. Expect Under 21.5 Games in this duel, one that should see the Russian come out on top.
2-0 to Karen Khachanov
Evans came up against 105-ranked Arnaldi and was caught napping with 10 breakpoints allowed on his serve. The Italian could not convert those opportunities but Khachanov will force him to make more errors and capitalize on them. The Russian exhibited this against Jarry who lost his opening serve in both sets. Based on this, we expect Khachanov to progress to the quarterfinals after a straight-sets victory at Evans’ expense.
Daniel Evans vs Karen Khachanov Preview
Our predictions for this match have now been established, let’s see how these players have fared so far in this tournament.
Daniel Evans
It has been a rocky start to the 2023 ATP tour for the British number 2. Evans will be looking to turn the tide on the European clay court swing of the campaign. Three of his six wins this year have come on the dusty surface and he will back himself to add to his tally against Khachanov, against whom he remains unbeaten in three duels. However, he has never gone past the Round of 16 in Barcelona and has only reached this stage back in his debut appearance in the tournament in 2017.
Karen Khachanov
Khachanov has been performing consistently in 2023, winning six out of seven opening-round matches on the main tour this year. He is one step away from a quarter-final berth after securing a straight-set victory over Nicolas Jarry in the second round of ATP Barcelona. He reached the quarter-finals in the last edition of the Barcelona Open and will have similar designs for the current iteration of the clay court event. While not adding much to his trophy cabinet, Khachanov reached the semifinals of the US Open 2022, Australian Open 2023, and Miami Masters 2023.
