Daniel Evans vs Jack Draper Prediction and Odds: Indian Wells 2023

This round 2 clash between two Brits promises to be a close affair with the young star on the rise Jack Draper looking to better his veteran countryman Daniel Evans.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Daniel Evans vs Jack Draper – Match Predictions

Although we are expecting Evans to give a good account of himself, we believe that our tips for the match are very solid. Let’s take a closer look at them.

Set 1 Score After 2 Games 1-1

Both Brits will want to start their clash strong and we expect that both will be able to hold their first serves. Draper looked very solid in round 1 when dismantling the Swiss Leandro Riedi 6-1, 6-1 and he never dropped his own serve in this match. Evans has the experience and he knows that holding his own serve and staying in contention for as long as possible is the only way he could hope for a win.

Draper to Win 2-0

The bookies expected the world number 56 Draper to win against the world number 29 Evans. We go a bit further in that and we predict that Draper will be able to do so in straight sets. Draper’s groundstrokes can cause far more damage on hard courts than on any other surface.

Evans might be a top 30 player, but his form in 2023 had been poor and he lost in round 1 in 4 of the 5 singles tournaments he entered. His only deeper run was when he made it to round 3 of the 2023 Australian Open. We don’t think at age 32 and clearly in decline, Evans could compete against the many young rising stars anymore.

Daniel Evans vs Jack Draper Preview

Let’s take a closer look at their form and hopes for the tournament.

Daniel Evans

Evans reached round 3 of the Australian Open, but in the other 4 ATP singles tournaments he has entered this year he suffered first-round defeats. The Brit is still finding his feet after an injury and suffered some humiliating defeats, including against players outside the top 250, in recent months.

Evans is also clearly not in top shape as in his last tournament before the 2023 Indian Wells he retired without even playing his first round match in Dubai. Evans received a Bye in round 1 as he is the 24th seed.

Jack Draper

Draper started 2023 well and on the buildup to the Australian Open he reached a semifinal in Adelaide, on way to it he beat the likes of Paul and Khachanov. He then got a bad draw in round 1 in Melbourne and despite putting up a good fight lost in 4 sets against Rafa Nadal.

Draper took the next few months off and he hasn’t played in any tournaments since. He trained with Andre Agassi exactly in California for the past 3 weeks though and he is already well acclimatized to the conditions. This was clear to see in round 1 when Draper simply blew off the court Riedi in a 6-1, 6-1 win. This is Draper’s first ever Indian Wells appearance.
