The upcoming quarter-final between Ruud and Shelton promises contrasting styles and plenty of great tennis. That’s precisely why I’ve chosen to supply a few tennis predictions today for you to check out ahead of this clash. On that note, let me now reveal the markets I’ve selected and explain why.
Our favourite Casper Ruud vs Ben Shelton predictions
Contents
The last time these guys met on a hard court, things didn’t go too well for Casper Ruud. However, in recent weeks, he is starting to show signs of his former self, mainly during his run to the finals in Los Cabos. That said, he suffered a surprise defeat to Jordan Thompson in the final – a guy whom Shelton beat just a week or two prior.
So, what does all of this mean for my predictions coming into this one?
Shelton to win @ 11/10 (2.10)
Although I’d probably say that Ruud has shown better form than Shelton lately, I still feel Shelton will get the win here. And I say this for two reasons. Firstly, Shelton smoked Ruud when they last played on an outdoor hard court. Secondly, Ruud has looked vulnerable in both of his previous games to reach this point.
Over 22.5 games @ 7/10 (1.70)
While I think that Shelton will edge out Ruud and make the semi-finals here, I certainly believe it will be a close contest. Between them, they’ve played 4 matches to reach this point, and 3 of these 4 have gone the distance. And I think that both guys will be a little fatigued coming into this game, which also suggests a scrappy and tight match.
Casper Ruud vs Ben Shelton odds
Casper Ruud has a 58.80% chance of winning this game, whereas the probability of a win for Shelton is 47.60%.
Defence vs offence – which style will prove enough in the Acapulco Open quarters?
Ruud was highlighted as a possible underdog for the title in my initial ATP Acapulco Open preview. But now he faces Shelton, things have become very interesting, as the following previews confirm too.
Casper Ruud preview
Ruud is ranked just above Shelton at the moment at 11 in the world, yet his form has been up and down really for 12 months or more. But as mentioned previously, he did make the finals of the Los Cabos Open recently, and he also beat Shelton in straight sets last time out.
Ben Shelton preview
Shelton is ranked 17 in the world right now, which wasn’t high enough to be seeded in the 2024 Acapulco Open. He has battled very hard to make the quarter-finals, too, edging out two tricky opponents in the form of Evans and Arnaldi to reach this point. Because of that, he could be feeling it in his legs, but that remains to be seen.
Ruud vs Shelton head to head
With a perfectly poised head-to-head at one win each, there is everything to play for in this quarter-final clash. As for their previous matches, Ruud won their last meeting in straight sets on clay, but Shelton won before that on outdoor hard courts – also in straight sets.
