Carlos Alcaraz vs Thanasi Kokkinakis – Match Predictions
Contents
Our examination of the Alcaraz vs Kokkinakis match at Indian Wells predicts one of the most tightly contested battles in the men’s singles second round. As a result, we present a thorough analysis of our tennis predictions for this eagerly awaited showdown.
Kokkinakis to Win A Set
The teenage prodigy Alcaraz lost the world number 1 position because of injury-ravaged 2023 so far. Alcaraz had to miss the 2023 Australian Open and also pulled out of the last tournament he was scheduled to play before Indian Wells in Acapulco. This means that the only 2 tournaments he had entered this season were 2 clay ones in South America. With that in mind, we think the lack of any competitive tennis on hard courts since last autumn could give Kokkinakis enough edge so he could win a set.
Total Sets – 3
In natural continuation to our first free betting tip we also think the game could go the distance and need a deciding third set. Kokkinakis extended to 3 sets 3 of his last 6 matches on the tour. He also pushed veteran Andy Murray to 5 sets back during the Australian Open. The Aussie is certainly not a pushover and he always fight hard.
All that said, we still believe in Alcaraz and even if not in the best of shape the Spaniard should be able to battle through. Alcaraz had to play 3 sets in 3 of his last 4 matches, so clearly after his time out he can’t win as easily as he was able to last year.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Thanasi Kokkinakis Preview
Having reviewed our Indian Wells predictions for the Alcaraz vs Kokkinakis match, let us now shift our attention towards analysing each player’s recent form and style of play.
Carlos Alcaraz
After his amazing 2022 Alcaraz was hit by injury problems in October and he’s still dealing with those. He missed the Australian Open in January, but made solid return to the tour in February with a title in Buenos Aires and a lost final in Rio. Both those tournaments were on clay though, so Alcaraz has zero hard court experience so far in 2023.
Alcaraz is an excellent all-round player, but he remains seen by many as primarily a clay specialist. Still, the 19-year-old has all the weapons to win against anyone on the tour and he has the confidence too. He did very well in round 1 though and easily beat the American Holt 6-4, 6-1.
Thanasi Kokkinakis
Kokkinakis is having an average year so far with 6 wins and 4 defeats. He missed a great chance to go deep in his home Grand Slam after losing in round 2 in 5 sets against Andy Murray. He then won a title in a minor tournament in Bahrain though and this was enough to see him reenter the top 100, currently sits at 94.
The win in Bahrain was on hard courts and Kokkinakis prefers this surface. It suits his flat heavy ground strokes and his fast first serve. The Aussie can play well, but his problem tends to be that he can sustain a high level of performance for no more than 20-30 minutes and then a dip of form follows.
Alcaraz vs Kokkinakis Head to Head
This will be the first ever meeting between the players, so they don’t really know each other that well.
