Carlos Alcaraz vs Max Purcell prediction and odds: Cincinnati Open 2023

Carlos Alcaraz, the world number one and top seed at the Western & Southern Open, is taking on a qualifier in the quarter-finals today. His opponent, Max Purcell, is playing some quite spectacular tennis this week too. So what are the best bets to make based on my tennis predictions today? Find out below.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Alcaraz vs Purcell – match predictions

After avenging his loss to Tommy Paul last night, Carlos Alcaraz is now favored to reach the finals of the 2023 Western & Southern Open. Looking at his draw, if he does beat Max Purcell today, he will then face either a lucky loser in the form of Popyrin or an unseeded player in the form of Hurkacz. Of course, that’s assuming he takes out the Australian qualifier this afternoon, which I believe he will.

Western & Southern Open 2023

Yet while I think Alcaraz will win, this isn’t necessarily the best market to back. Instead, I’d recommend the following to lock in some value bets:

Under 20.5 games

There is no denying that Max Purcell is enjoying a great tournament. In fact, it’s probably the best run of form that the Aussie has put together in his career, and he deserves credit for the results he’s produced. However, I can’t see him pushing Alcaraz overly close today, and I feel that this market is a good call.

Purcell +6.5 games handicap

Although I can’t see Purcell causing too many problems for Carlos Alcaraz at the Western & Southern Open, I don’t think he will get totally wiped off the court. Therefore, while the match could well have fewer than 20.5 games, I can see Purcell managing to rack up enough games for this handicap to be a winner. In fact, even if he lost in straight sets, as long as each set involved just one break of serve, this market would be a winner.

Alcaraz vs Purcell preview

Check out a short preview for each of these players ahead of this Cincinnati Open quarter-final. These previews will help you to learn a bit more about each guy before placing your bets.

Carlos Alcaraz preview

Alcaraz is obviously the top dog in Cincinnati. He’s the top seed, world number one, and I’m sure he’d love to add this Masters 1000 title to his resume. With that said, he has required three sets in both of his previous matches to reach this round.

Max Purcell preview

While Alcaraz is world number 1, Max Purcell is world number 70. This is obviously quite a difference. However, Purcell has already won five matches to make the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open. And he has taken out the 5th seed, Casper Ruud, as well as Stan Wawrinka in the last round to set up this match.

Alcaraz vs Purcell head to head

Since Max Purcell is a relatively infrequent visitor to the main draw of Masters 1000 events, it’s perhaps not surprising that these two have never competed against each other. Therefore, we are going into this one with a blank slate in the head-to-head department.
