It’s no great secret that Carlos Alcaraz is the next big thing in tennis. He already has the support of the fans, and comparisons relating to himself and the likes of Nadal/Djokovic are rife. Not only that, but he has recently won his very first Grand Slam at the US Open. In doing so, he has become the world number one at just 19 years of age. This in itself is simply incredible, and such achievements at this kind of age have got fans talking.
Specifically, there is one burning question on the lips of tennis fans right now. And that question is just how many Grand Slams Carlos Alcaraz can rack up during the 2023 season. After all, winning the first Grand Slam is always the hardest, but now he has got that one out of the way. So what now? Well, he is still a fair few slams away from reaching the kind of records posted by Djokovic and Nadal.
However, assuming he has at least 10 years of tennis left in him (as a bare minimum), who would bet against Alcaraz getting close to these records? On that note, let me take a look at how many slams he could potentially win next year.
Alcaraz Grand Slam Wins – 2023 Predictions
It’s never an easy task to look at how many slams a player could win in a single season. There are so many elements at play that getting things 100% correct is near impossible. But that doesn’t stop us from having some fun and looking at what is possible for Carlos Alcaraz in 2023. With that in mind, let me share my thoughts on the matter right now:
Possible Grand Slams – Maximum of Two
Although Alcaraz is obviously an immense talent, hence his first slam at 19 and number 1 ranking, I think people are getting a little carried away with his potential dominance. Sure, I do believe that Alcaraz will ultimately dominate the ATP Tour, much as Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal have done for the last 15-20 years. But let’s not forget that two of these legends are still active!
This alone poses a threat to Alcaraz at the slams, as it is still very possible that he could lose to Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal in any of the four majors. Besides that, I believe that he could win a maximum of two slams for a couple of other reasons. Firstly, I don’t feel that his game is adaptable enough (yet) to win at Wimbledon. This was the case when Nadal first started to rack up a bunch of slams too.
This leaves three remaining Grand Slams that he could win, in my opinion. I certainly feel he has a shot at the Australian Open, as it is a hard-court event. But Djokovic has been King in Australia prior to the 2022 fiasco. As for the French Open, if Nadal plays, he is still a heavy favourite, even at his age. And finally, since he has won the US Open already, one has to say that he has a chance to do it again in 2023.
