In contrast, with Azarenka being the 14th seed in this event, she hasn’t played any matches yet. That’s because all of the seeds for this tournament have received a bye into the second round, which is how it worked last week in Indian Wells too.
As for how things are shaping up between these players, this match could be an interesting one. Giorgi has a 2-1 head-to-head lead over Azarenka, yet Azarenka retired in one of these matches while the other win for Giorgi was back in 2014.
