After a solid showing at Australian Open where he reached the fourth round before being eliminated by Alexander Zverev, Norrie’s South American tour started poorly after a loss to Federico Corria at Buenos Aires Open.

The next stop for the Brit is Rio de Janeiro and Norrie certainly has fond memories from the Brazil’s second-biggest city. After all, Norrie won the Rio Open last year after beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final 2-1 (5-7, 6-4, 7-5). This remains one of only five titles for Norrie to date and the last title he won, so Norrie certainly has high hopes heading into the tournament, especially after eliminating Huge Dellien in the First Round.

After his disappointing exit in the first round in Buenos Aires, Norrie returns to Rio de Janeiro where he won his last title. The first obstacle for the defending champion was Huge Dellien, the Bolivian tennis player currently ranked 135th in the ATP rankings. Norrie didn’t have any trouble in that match as he dispatched of the Bolivian in straight sets.

His next opponent is the Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera, currently ranked 120th in the ATP list. Vera seems like another similar opponent to Dellien, so Norrie enters this match being favoured to win once again.
