It’s starting to heat up in the Californian desert this week, and day two of the first round matches is heading our way. For that reason, I’ve got a selection of tennis predictions today that cover the upcoming clash between Van de Zandschulp and Shapovalov. Check them out below.
Our favourite Botic Van de Zandschulp vs Denis Shapovalov predictions
Contents
As referenced above, this is a first round encounter, and it’s one of the tastiest of them all in the BNP Paribas Open. Both of these guys play high-risk, flashy tennis, and such styles always ensure plenty of excitement for the fans. But excitement aside, you’re looking for high value predictions for this match, and I’ve got just the ticket for you – as shown below.
Van de Zandschulp to win @ 5/4 (2.25)
Although the man from the Netherlands is the underdog, I firmly believe he will get the job done against Denis Shapovalov. I know that he isn’t in the best form, but he’s had tough matches in recent months. And I know that if he finds his range in Indian Wells, he has big enough weapons to take out Shapovalov.
Van de Zandschulp +1.5 games handicap @ 19/20 (1.95)
Whenever I choose an underdog for the win, I always check out the games handicap market to see how ‘realistic’ it is. That said, there’s always the possibility that Van de Zandschulp blows his opponent off court for at least a set – ideally two given my previous prediction! And that means this market is a good shout too.
Botic Van de Zandschulp vs Denis Shapovalov odds
Van de Zandschulp has a 44.40% chance of winning this and Shapovalov has a 63.60% probability, as per the latest odds.
Fireworks guaranteed in round one of Indian Wells 2024
If you’ve checked my Indian Wells 2024 preview, you’ll know the winner of this match will face a seed. But let me cover some extras before we reach that point.
Botic Van de Zandschulp preview
Van de Zandschulp has one of the most dangerous games on tour. The power he possesses on his groundstrokes is phenomenal, which is why he’s scored many big wins in his career. But this does come at the expense of consistency, as evidenced by his current ranking of 82. Furthermore, he’s not won many matches in 2024 due to tough draws.
Denis Shapovalov preview
Although things are picking up for this Canadian, he is still fighting his way back from a long term injury dating back to the 2023 season. And much like Van de Zandschulp, he has a huge game, but he can be erratic. Lastly, he has made it past the first round in just one tournament in the 2024 season, so he won’t be overloaded with confidence here.
Van de Zandschulp vs Shapovalov head to head
Although these guys have been on the ATP Tour for quite some time, they’ve never actually played one another, so the head-to-head is 0-0.
