As we march ever deeper into the Indian Wells draw, the upcoming matches become all the more interesting. So, too, do our tennis predictions today. And ahead of the fourth-round battle between Shelton and Sinner, I’ve got a couple of key markets for you to explore.
Our favourite Ben Shelton vs Jannik Sinner predictions
Contents
Ben Shelton has come through two blockbusters in the desert to set up this fourth-round match against Jannik Sinner. In contrast, the in-form Italian has made it through unscathed, so he’s certainly the fresher of the two. At the same time, he’s the man to beat right now, which leads me to the following two predictions:
Sinner to win 2-1 @ 10/3 (4.33)
I know that Sinner is one of the red-hot favourites for the title, as my Indian Wells 2024 preview demonstrated. But as great as he is playing, and while he definitely has a shot at the title, Shelton is a tricky customer. Plus, he’s caused Sinner issues in the past, beating him on one occasion and losing in a very tight two-set battle in the other.
Shelton to win a set – yes @ 11/8 (2.38)
I’m choosing this market as my second prediction as it covers two angles. First, if Shelton causes an upset and beats Sinner, this market will be a winner. Second, if Shelton wins a set and Sinner goes on to win, both of these selections will pull through.
Ben Shelton vs Jannik Sinner odds
Shelton has a win probability of 21.70% here while the chance of Sinner beating the American is 84.60%.
Battle of the big hitters coming up at the BNP Paribas Open
Given how these guys play, we can look forward to some huge hitting in the Indian Wells fourth round, and the following previews provide a little extra before it all unfolds.
Ben Shelton preview
At just 21 years of age, Ben Shelton is definitely a star of the future. In fact, he’s already a star, as confirmed by the fact that he’s ranked 16 in the world. He also has one of the biggest serves and forehands on tour, which poses a threat to anyone. At the same time, he beat Sinner last season in Shanghai.
Jannik Sinner preview
I called Sinner the ‘man of the moment’ earlier for a reason. This 22-year-old is ranked 3 in the world, and he is arguably playing the best tennis of anyone on tour. Of course, he won his maiden slam just a couple of months back, too, which he has since backed up with a second title in Rotterdam. And based on his first two matches in Indian Wells, he’s in no mood to mess around.
Shelton vs Sinner head to head
These talented youngsters have played twice in the past, and the head-to-head is even at 1-1. Both matches came in 2023, one on indoor hard and the other on outdoor hard, and it’s the latter that Shelton won in three sets!
