Auger-Aliassime Makes It Three in a Row in Basel

It would be fair to say that Felix Auger-Aliassime has enjoyed a rather phenomenal three weeks on the ATP Tour. The young Canadian has managed to rack up three tournament wins in as many weeks. And in doing so, he has given himself a tremendous chance of qualifying for the End of Year Masters in Turin. This alone is an incredible achievement, yet that’s just an added bonus to go with the three titles he has secured in recent times.

ATP Basel

In beating Holger Rune in the final of Basel today, Auger-Aliassime made it 13 wins in a row. This is something that even Iga Swiatek would be proud of since her streak was one of the most talked about things in the sport during 2022. Of course, you also had Nadal who put together a pretty ridiculous streak at the beginning of the season.

With all of this in mind, I figured it would be fun to look back at exactly what Auger-Aliassime has put together over the last three weeks. So let’s get started with a run-through of his three events.

Auger-Aliassime – The Man to Beat in Recent Weeks

We were all pretty impressed when Felix Auger-Aliassime beat Novak Djokovic at the Laver Cup back in September. But few would have thought that he would then go on the run that he has done over the previous three weeks. If you ignore the first match loss in Kazakhstan to Bautista Agut, it’s clear that Auger-Aliassime has been flawless. So as promised, let’s quickly recap this sensational three-week period for the Canadian.

ATP 250 – Florence, Italy

Italy was the tournament where things started to get rolling for Auger-Aliassime. He took down the title with the loss of just one set. This came in his opener against Otte, the big-hitting German player. But after he wriggled through that opener, he went on a rampage to the title, beating Nakashima, Musetti, and then JJ Wolf in the final. This title lit the match for the next two weeks, as you are about to see.

ATP 250 – Antwerp, Belgium

Auger-Aliassime travelled to Antwerp off the back of a pretty great week in Italy. Yet there was plenty of pressure in this event, as he needed to do well to keep his dream alive of qualifying for the End of Year Finals. Of course, he did exactly that, as he marched to the title with the loss of just one set for the second week running. This set loss came against Dan Evans in his quarter-final match, but he was flawless beyond that. He beat Korda in the finals with an impressive display too.

ATP 500 – Basel, Switzerland

Today wrapped up a remarkable three weeks for Felix Auger-Aliassime. While the previous two tournament wins were at the 250 level, this one came at the 500 level. During the event, Auger-Aliassime beat Husler, Kecmanovic, Bublik, Alcaraz (current world number one), and Rune in the finals. Bear in mind that he has racked up this tournament win the week before the final Masters 1000 event of the season.

So without question, he will be bursting with confidence going into next week.
