ATP rising stars 2024 – watch out for these young talents!

Ready to witness the emergence of ATP rising stars 2024 throughout the upcoming season? I certainly am, and I believe that we are in the midst of one of the most exciting times in men’s tennis in recent years.

On the one hand, the greats of the game, such as Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, are clinging on to their throne. Yet, on the other hand, the young guns are coming through to take the crown in their masses. Of course, this range of ATP rising stars 2024 could include youngsters like Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner, and others.

However, since these guys have already ‘made it’, so to speak, I feel it’s necessary to look beyond these players to give the others a fair shake. As a result of this research, I’ve been able to identify a handful of ATP rising stars 2024 – meaning the young guys who you should be keeping an eye on for the 2024 season.

Speaking of which, many of the guys I will be referencing here are competing in the ATP Australian Open 2024. This opening Grand Slam of the season will give us an idea of where the rising stars are at, yet there is plenty more tennis to come over a 12-month period.

So – ready to read through the rising stars who seem primed to make a big impact in 2024? Let’s begin.

ATP rising stars 2024 – a quick breakdown of guys to watch

Before I cover each of the individual ATP players in detail, it’s best to give you the scoop on who to keep on your radar throughout 2024. This way, you have a clear point of reference that you can come back to at any point over the entire 2024 season.

So on that note, let me share the names of the five ATP rising stars 2024 who have the potential for a breakout season:

  • Arthur Fils
  • Jack Draper
  • Luca Van Assche
  • Dominic Stricker
  • Lorenzo Musetti

Each of these five guys is ranked inside the ATP top 100 at the turn of the bend heading into the 2024 season. Furthermore, they are all either in their early 20s or still in their teenage years, which is obviously important for them to be viewed as ‘rising stars’.

Of course, you will be familiar with some of these guys already – especially if you tuned in to watch the Next Gen Finals 2023. But if you aren’t overly familiar with these individuals, I have a feeling that you will gain some valuable insight through the respective sections below.

And just before we continue, if you want a broader scope of who to watch in 2024, I highly recommend checking out my breakdown of the WTA rising stars 2024 too. This way, you will have a grand total of 10 youngsters to monitor throughout the 2024 season.

Arthur Fils – arguably the ‘top dog’ of all ATP rising stars 2024

Fun fact for you – entering the 2024 season, Arthur Fils is the highest-ranked teenager in the world concerning the ATP rankings. At the time of writing, Fils is ranked 36 in the world, yet he has the potential to climb far higher than that in 2024. This has come to fruition thanks to a pretty sensational 2023 season, which earned him the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ trophy at the ATP awards 2023.

In 2023, Fils won his very first ATP title, and he made it all the way through to the finals of the Next Gen Finals in Saudi Arabia. He may not have won that particular competition, but his talent and skill were on show for the tennis world to see. And speaking of those kinds of attributes, Arthur Fils has been compared to his older countryman, Gael Monfils, quite regularly.

This is partly because both guys are French, of course, yet it’s also because Fils is a phenomenal athlete who possesses a big serve and a pretty hefty forehand too – much like Gael Monfils. These are the kinds of attributes that can help a player go far in their career, which is why I believe that Arthur Fils is pretty much the stand-out individual of all ATP rising stars 2024.

Jack Draper – a dangerous player with serious talent

Introducing the exciting player from Great Britain – Jack Draper. This powerful 22-year-old can put together some truly top-drawer tennis when everything is firing as it should. As a tricky left-handed player, Draper also has a big serve and a dangerous forehand, much like Arthur Fils mentioned above.

Currently, Draper is ranked just outside of the ATP top 50, yet he endured a rough time of injuries during the 2023 season. These injuries have delayed his progression and ultimate rise through the ATP rankings. But if Jack Draper is able to keep fit and healthy, he will be one of the ATP rising stars of 2024 who could shock us all with a big tournament win.

Perhaps a Grand Slam title is beyond his reach for the time being. However, Draper can certainly cause problems for the top guys at the ATP 500 and the Masters 1000 level. And given that he has already reached the 4th round of a Grand Slam, which he achieved at the 2023 US Open, it’s obvious that he believes he can do great things in the sport.

Because of that, I think a realistic goal for Jack Draper in 2024 is to win his very first ATP title, which would be epic in itself.

Luca Van Assche – another French teenager to add to the ATP rising stars 2024 group

There must be something in the water over in France, as they just keep pumping out guys with serious potential in tennis. This brings me to Luca Van Assche, who is still just a teenager, at the time of writing. Of course, this makes him the second French teenager to feature in this rundown of the ATP rising stars 2024.

In my opinion, Luca Van Assche is one of the most stylish youngsters currently ranked inside the ATP top 100. He is rather silky on both the backhand and forehand wings, and his game is less ‘power-based’ than some of the other guys on this list. Instead, he likes to work the point and use plenty of variety to get the desired result.

This makes him both fun to watch, and rather interesting from a tactical standpoint too. Such abilities have helped Van Assche beat players such as Stan Wawrinka, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Adrian Mannarino, and other noteworthy players in 2023.

So in my opinion, if he continues on his current path, he is definitely one to watch in the 2024 season.

Dominic Stricker – a huge hitter with plenty of potential

When you are a tennis player from Switzerland, you’ve automatically got some pretty big shoes to fill. Of course, I am referencing legends such as Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka here. Yet, if Dominic Stricker manages to make the most of his abilities in his career, it’s not farfetched to think that he could well win a Grand Slam.

He has a simply massive game, and since he is one of those ATP rising stars 2024 who just goes for it, regardless of the scoreline, he is capable of big wins when he is on. This was particularly evident at the 2023 US Open when Dominic Stricker took out Stefanos Tsitsipas en route to the round of 16.

Adding to that, this is the joint furthest that any of these five youngsters have gone in a Grand Slam. Therefore, it’s impossible to deny his abilities, and at 21 years of age, some might argue that Stricker has a better chance of a breakthrough 2024 season than others.

That’s because he should be physically fitter, stronger, and more mature than some of the youngsters who are still teenagers, in theory.

Lorenzo Musetti – possibly the most talented of all the ATP rising stars 2024

Last but not least, after plenty of deliberation, I’ve chosen to include Lorenzo Musetti in this breakdown of ATP rising stars for the 2024 season. Yet, it’s interesting to think that Musetti is just 21 years of age, as personally, I feel like he has been around for a long time on the ATP Tour.

Nevertheless, as an extremely talented player who is in his early 20s, he ticks all of the right boxes to be viewed as a rising star for the upcoming 2024 season. And thanks to a string of great results in the clay court swing of 2023, Musetti actually gained a career-high ranking of 15 – the best career-high ranking of all the guys mentioned in the ATP rising stars 2024 group.

Furthermore, Lorenzo Musetti has two ATP titles to his name, so he has already made a breakthrough in that regard. But for a guy of his abilities, really, he should be challenging for Masters 1000 titles, if not Grand Slams in the near future.

Let’s not forget that Musetti has beaten the likes of Novak Djokovic in his career either, which further confirms the kind of results we can expect from this flashy Italian in 2024.
