Arthur Fils was born on June 12, 2004 in Bondoufle, Essonne. He started playing tennis at the age of five, thanks to his sports-loving father. He joined the club of Saint-Michel sur Orge in 1991, but before getting into tennis, he tried his hand at judo, swimming and athletics.
He discovered a talent for tennis early on, as well as his passion for the sport. Since 2019, he has been training at the CNE (National Training Center) and is coached by Laurent Raymond.
He was first noticed on big stage during Roland Garros juniors competition in 2021 where four French players made it to the semi-finals – next to Fils, it was Sean Cuenin, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and Luca Van Assche, who beat Fils in the final. The 2023 season is his first on the ATP Tour.
Arthur Fils’ Career Statistics
In his very young career, Arthur Fils has not yet had time to build a record worthy of the name. When we look back at the Futures tour, we see that Arthur Fils has won two tournaments in 2021. The first one he won in Uriage in France before doing the same in Antalya in Turkey.
This year, he won the Oeiras Challenger in Portugal. Then, he continued with a final at the Quimper Challenger. Finally, just a few days ago, Arthur Fils won his first ATP 250 tournament in Lyon, France.
Current ATP Rankings of Artur Fils
Arthur Fils is currently 63rd player in the world, according to the latest ATP rankings. In fact, he had a huge jump just before Roland Garros after his biggest success yet in senior competition, his win at the Lyon Open.
Thanks to his wild card in the main draw of Roland Garros, he would’ve been able to benefit from points of a Grand Slam in the event of a good run, so he could end up jumping even more in the rankings. However, he ran into a tough opponent in Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the start and lost in the first round.
Arthur Fils’ Latest Results and Next Match
Arthur Fils is one of France’s best hopes at the moment, which he proved by winning Lyon Open. There, he managed to beat some great players, including Mikael Ymer, Felix Auger-Allissime, Brandon Nakashima, and, finally, Francisco Cerundolo in the final match. So, Fils will certainly remember Lyon fondly as it is the place of his first-ever title in the ATP Tour, joining Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune among the players under 20 to have won a title in 2023.
Meanwhile, as we already said, Fils faced Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round of Roland Garros, but ultimately lost to the Spaniard 3-1 (6-1, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3).
However, Arthur Fils will also compete in men’s doubles at Roland Garros, along with his teenage friend Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. They will play against Luca Sanchez and Theo Arribage in the first round.
