The final of the WTA Dubai Open is officially set. It’s going to be X against the unseeded Jasmine Paolini for the title, and it should be a thriller for all who can watch. In fact, looking back at my initial WTA Dubai Open preview, it’s clear that plenty of upsets have occurred in this 1000-level tournament. As a result, we now have a final consisting of an incredible qualifier against an unexpected finalist in the form of Jasmine Paolini.
So – what should you be backing? Let me share my two cents now.
Kalinskaya to win 2-0 @ Evens (2.00)
Given her emphatic win against the world number 1 in the semi-finals, it would be crazy to bet against Kalinskaya given her current form. In fact, when you consider that she has beaten the 9th, 3rd, and 1st seeds in succession, with the loss of just one set, I have to go for a straight sets win in her favour.

For those thinking that her results have been a ‘fluke’ this week, I should remind you all that Kalinskaya made the quarters of the 2024 Australian Open. She’s clearly feeling good at the WTA Dubai Open, too, as her results have been even more impressive than they were in Melbourne. Furthermore, she beat Paolini 6-4 6-2 at the Australian Open.

The implied chance for Paolini here is 71.40%, while the probability of a win for Kalinskaya is 33.30.
2024 WTA Dubai Open – qualifier vs unseeded Italian for the title
As mentioned above, none of us would have predicted this final. However, things are now set, and I wish to tell you a bit more about these two before the 2024 Dubai Open final.

Kalinskaya has been on a tear in 2024, there is no denying that. Thanks to her quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open and because of her points from last season, she’s now ranked 40 in the world. And if she wins the final here, she is set for another huge leap, which I’m sure will add plenty of motivation!
Jasmine Paolini preview
Paolini has enjoyed quite a streak in this tournament too. She’s taken out the 11th seed and 8th seed, as well as the in-form Sorana Cirstea, in the semi-finals. Paolini also made the round of 16 at the Australian Open before losing to Kalinskaya, so she will be out for revenge in Dubai.

With a 1-1 head-to-head record, there isn’t much in this match-up. That said, Kalinskaya won their most recent match in Melbourne by a score of 6-4 6-2, while Paolini beat Kalinskaya in 2021 by a score of 6-3 6-2.
