15th seed Kvitova is about to clash with 39th-ranked Kalinina in what could be a fascinating second-round match. Yet before the game begins, I’d like to share two suggesting betting tips now:
These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.
Kalinina vs Kvitova – Match Predictions
Contents
These two players aren’t all that far apart in the WTA rankings. Kvitova is currently 15 in the world, hence the seeding she has been given for the 2023 Australian Open. As for Kalinina, she is 39 in the WTA rankings at the moment. But she has been as high as 34, which is marginally higher than she is now. In contrast, Kvitova has been the number 2 player in the world in the past, although that was a while back.
As for career experience, these two are quite far apart. Kvitova has been on the tour for well over 10 years. And her first main draw appearance at the Australian Open was back in 2009. She’s also been a finalist at this slam as recently as 2019. Then for Kalinina, she’s only played the main draw in Melbourne on one occasion. This was last year and she lost in the first round.
Therefore, I’ve given my tennis predictions today for this match as follows:
Kvitova To Win
Although these two have never played, I feel experience favours Kvitova here. Furthermore, she played great in the recent United Cup, posting a win against one of the main favourites for this event in the form of Jessica Pegula too. She also made the quarter-finals in Adelaide last week, which bodes well.
Kvitova To Win A Set – Yes
While the odds are obviously more enticing for Kvitova to win the match, some may wish to play more conservatively. Therefore, I’ve decided to include Kvitova to win a set, for which the odds are lower at 1/5 (1.20).
Kalinina vs Kvitova Preview
I’ve given justifications for these predictions above, but it helps to know a bit more about each player before betting on the match. So let me give you those details now.
Anhelina Kalinina Preview
Kalinina has done plenty of winning in recent times. She won a challenger at the back end of 2022 and she qualified for the first Adelaide International event just a week or two ago. So she’s clearly been playing plenty, and she’s been producing solid results. It’s just that she’s quite inexperienced in Grand Slams, especially the Australian Open.
Petra Kvitova Preview
Kvitova is certainly one of the veterans of the WTA Tour at this point. She’s got an awkward lefty game and she can produce plenty of firepower on both wings. And at the Australian Open, she’s a two-time quarter-finalist, a one-time semi-finalist, and a finalist. So she is clearly suited to the court surface at the Australian Open.
Kalinina vs Kvitova Head to Head
Kvitova and Kalinina have never clashed on the tennis court in the past. Therefore, we have no head-to-head records to work with when deciding which way this game might swing.
