After producing another marathon victory in his first round, Andy Murray has been given a lifeline in the second round of Indian Wells. Today, Murray will take on Radu Albot instead of his initial opponent, Pablo Carreno-Busta. Albot has come in to take the spot of the much higher-ranked Spaniard, yet he will face an in-form, Andy Murray. This will actually be the first time that these two have played, however, so we don’t have a load of history to work with.
However, as I shall be doing throughout Indian Wells, I’ve created some tennis predictions today that you can follow for this one.
Murray -4.5 Game Handicap
Andy Murray is one of those players who is consistent from the baseline yet he can move you around the court with ease. I feel this matches up perfectly against the game style of Radu Albot, especially with Murray pulling through against Etcheverry in the previous round. Assuming he gets off to a quick start, a -4.5 handicap in his favour should be very realistic.

It’s important to focus on the rankings of these guys to justify this prediction. Murray is ranked 55 at the moment and Albot is ranked outside of the top 100. And while yes, they haven’t played before, Murray’s experience and form should carry him to a straight-set win.

The season that Murray is having in 2023 is nothing short of remarkable. He seems to be pulling out victories from the jaws of defeat more often than not. And this has seen him reach the final in Doha just the other week while pushing his ranking up to 55 too. So clearly, he is finding the kind of form that made him so formidable back in the day.
Radu Albot Preview
At 109 in the world, it’s obvious that Albot isn’t one of the top players at Indian Wells. In fact, he’s only in the main draw as a lucky loser after replacing Pablo Carreno Busta. This means he’s already lost in the tournament, which occurred against Struff – a player ranked 134. So really, things aren’t looking too promising for Radu Albot going into this one.
Murray vs Albot Head to Head
As I’ve stressed previously, these two have never played one another. This means that it’s a completely blank canvas in terms of history between the two. However, it’s obvious that Murray’s career has been far more successful than Albot’s. And they are only two years apart in age too, so it’s not like this is the case because Albot is fresh out of the blocks!
