Alexander Zverev vs Thanasi Kokkinakis prediction and odds: Los Cabos Open 2024

Alexander Zverev vs Thanasi Kokkinakis prediction and odds: Los Cabos Open 2024

The quarter-final stage is officially here in the 2024 Los Cabos Open. That means my tennis predictions today relate to several high-level matches, and Zverev vs Kokkinakis promises to be one of them. However, what are your best bets to make for this match? Let me show you.

Our favourite Alexander Zverev vs Thanasi Kokkinakis predictions

As we head into this clash, Zverev is ranked 6 in the world while Kokkinakis is ranked 103. That’s obviously a huge difference, but I don’t believe we should read too much into such numbers. After all, Kokkinakis has the kind of game to beat top-level players like Zverev, and he’s had two solid wins to make the quarters.

With that in mind, let me reveal my two Zverev vs Kokkinakis predictions:

Kokkinakis to win a set – yes @ 5/4 (2.20)

These guys have played just once before, and Zverev won in straight sets. But that was back in 2022, and Kokkinakis is showing signs that he is finding top form once again in Los Cabos. He has taken out Jack Draper and Dan Evans to reach this stage, and with the way he’s playing, I am backing him to grab a set against Zverev.

Over 20.5 games @ 8/13 (1.62)

Assuming Kokkinakis does manage to take a set from Alexander Zverev, I feel there is a very good chance that the match will consist of more than 20.5 games. That’s because Zverev will not go down without a fight, and to be honest, I still think Zverev will win in three sets if Kokkinakis takes a set from him. But since that’s a much riskier play, I’m sticking with this option.

Alexander Zverev vs Thanasi Kokkinakis odds

As per the latest odds, Zverev has an implied probability of 83.30% to win this match. In contrast, the chance of Kokkinakis winning is 23.10%.

Can Kokkinakis trouble the mighty German in Los Cabos?

As the ATP schedule 2024 shows us, Los Cabos serves as a competitive event in the build-up to the sunshine double in March. So all participants want to do well here, and the following previews reveal where each guy is at.

Alexander Zverev preview

Zverev has played just one match in Los Cabos to reach the quarters. This was a convincing win over Nishioka by a score of 6-3 6-0. Of course, he made the semi-finals of the Australian Open prior to this event, too, so he’s in red-hot form.

Thanasi Kokkinakis preview

Although Zverev is in great form, Kokkinakis has the kind of game to cause the German a few issues. He has a big serve and a fantastic forehand, so he can certainly damage Zverev with such weapons – as he also showed against Draper and Evans in previous rounds.

Zverev vs Kokkinakis head to head

The head-to-head stands at 1-0 in favour of the German for this match-up, and this win came at the Miami Open back in 2022 – a straight-sets victory.
