If you haven’t yet tracked our latest tips for the top tournaments taking place, make sure you check out our tennis predictions today! Here, however, you can instantly check a couple of well-researched predictions for the second semi-final at the Los Cabos Open. Tonight, we have a showdown between Zverev and Thompson to look forward to, and I’ve given my tips below.
Our favourite Alexander Zverev vs Jordan Thompson predictions
Contents
At this point in the ATP schedule 2024, the tournaments might not have the highest gradings, but the top guys are all in action. Tournaments like the Los Cabos Open provide a prime opportunity to boost their points totals, yet Zverev needs to get past a man who beat him previously if he is to reach the finals.
So, what does this mean for my Zverev vs Thompson predictions?
Thompson to win a set – yes @ 11/10 (2.10)
Before you think I’m being overly enthusiastic about Thompson, let me explain. Thompson is having quite a season, and it all started with a win over Nadal in January. Since then, he’s made back-to-back quarter-finals in 250 events (in recent weeks), so I truly believe he can take a set here.
Thompson +4.5 games handicap @ 3/4 (1.75)
There is one more important detail to justify this prediction and the previous one for Jordan Thompson. While yes, his season has been solid to this point, he also beat Alexander Zverev in their last meeting. This was in 2023 on outdoor hard-courts, so a +4.5 games handicap seems more than possible.
Alexander Zverev vs Jordan Thompson odds
The chance for Zverev to win here is 80%, while the implied probability for Thompson is 26.30%.
Can Thompson upset the odds and do the double over Zverev?
I’ve introduced this match and my predictions above. But now, it’s time to cover each individual in a little more detail.
Alexander Zverev preview
Since his horrible injury in 2022, Zverev has been on an epic comeback. When he reached the semis of the Australian Open, it felt like this comeback was complete too. However, Los Cabos is his first tournament since Melbourne, so a little bit of ‘rust’ is expected. This might work in Thompson’s favour, but Zverev has made lightwork of both Nishioka and Kokkinakis to reach this stage.
Jordan Thompson preview
Following a string of decent results in 2024, Thompson is now ranked 40 in the world. This is actually a career-high for the Aussie, which says it all in terms of how he is playing. Additionally, he did beat Zverev in straight sets the last time they met, and he also overcame a very tough contest in the quarters to set up this clash.
Zverev vs Thompson head to head
These two have played just twice in the past, and the head-to-head is poised at 1-1. That said, Zverev beat Thompson in three sets back in 2017, while Thompson won the recent meeting in 2023 in straight sets.
