Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov have met on more than a few occasions, and the two are set to renew their rivalry in New York. Will the German continue his dominance, or will the Bulgarian pull off an upset? Check out our predictions for this third round matchup.

Our favourite  Alexander Zverev vs Grigor Dimitrov predictions

Zverev enters the third round matchup against fellow seeded player Dimitrov as the favorite. The German has dominated the head-to-head against the Bulgarian, and that trend could very well continue in New York.

Total 3 sets @ 13/10 (2.3)

Zverev dropped a set against fellow German Daniel Altmaeir in round 2, that was an exception rather than the rule. Five of the German’s last six wins came in straight sets.

That was the case of his most recent meeting against Dimitrov, which happened in Cincinnati a fortnight ago. Zverev won without dropping a single service game as well, continuing the one-sided rivalry against the Bulgarian. If it continues this way, we can expect the #12 seed to wrap this one up in three sets.

Alexander Zverev -4.5 games @ 10/11 (1.91)

If Zverev manages to win this match in straight sets, he should also be able to easily cover the -4.5 handicap. The line gives some room as well, allowing one tie break in the process. If Zverev wins, he could also cover the line even in a four-setter.

Zverev covered this line in his last two meetings against Dimitrov, at Roland Garros and the Cincinnati Masters.

Zverev vs Dimitrov: Will the rivalry remain one-sided?

These are the predictions for today’s US Open match between Zverev and Dimitrov. Let’s now take a look at the road that got them to the third round.

Alexander Zverev preview

Zverev is slowly returning to form. Since reaching the semifinals in Roland Garros, the German has been riding some positive momentum, with a home title at Hamburg and a semifinals bid at the Cincinnati Masters. In New York, Zverev dispatched Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets, and then beat compatriot Daniel Altmaier in a four-setter.

Grigor Dimitrov preview

Dimitrov got off to a nice start in the American hard court season, with a semifinal appearance in Washington. But the Bulgarian has followed that up with back-to-back first round exits, a WO loss in Toronto and a straight sets defeat to Zverev in Cincinnati. Dimitrov had to come back from two sets down against Alex Molcan in the first round at the US Open, but managed to avoid a third consecutive one-and-done. He bounced back by triumphing over Andy Murray in straights to set up another encounter against Zverev.

Zverev vs Dimitrov head to head

As mentioned before, Zverev has completely dominated the head to head against Dimitrov. The German has won five from six. Dimitrov’s lone win came in their first meeting, nine years ago, with the last five going Zverev’s way. The pair have met twice this year, at Roland Garros and at Cincinnati, with Zverev winning both matches in straight sets.
