Alex de Minaur vs Andy Murray – Match Predictions
Contents
Alex de Minaur to Win
Murray’s lack of time on clay court could work against him as he has only played three matches on clay since the 2020 French Open. However, he will be looking for a positive result on his return to Monte Carlo after 2017. Meanwhile, de Minaur has shown consistent performances on clay in recent years and reached the semi-final of ATP Lyon in 2022. Given his preference for hard and green courts and time away from the game, it is difficult to back Murray against a seeded player.
2-1 to Alex de Minaur
Murray would not have chosen to return to Monte Carlo had he not been confident in his abilities. However, he will have to overcome the Acapulco champion in De Minaur. The Australian has young legs on him but the Scotsman’s doggedness will not make it easy for him. Moreover, the 24-year-old has the tendency to go missing in games. Based on this, we are backing a 2-1 conclusion in favour of De Minaur in this duel.
Alex de Minaur vs Andy Murray Preview
Our predictions for this match have now been established, let’s see how these players have fared so far in this tournament.
Alex de Minaur
De Minaur has impressed this season but has fallen short of giving his best. In the Australian Open, eventual champion Novak Djokovic ended his term. He impressed in Rotterdam but faced a resurgent Grigor Dimitrov. De Minaur did follow it up with a win in Acapulco but could not build up on it in the Sunshine Double. He was knocked out at the first hurdle in both Indian Wells and Miami Open and will want to put that behind him in Monte Carlo.
Andy Murray
The former world number 1 is past his prime but still has a wise head on him. It was on display in the Grand Slam of Asia Pacific and again in Doha where he reached the final. Murray would have run away with the prize had he not come up against an inspired Daniil Medvedev. At Indian Wells, he showed what he was made up of but could not deal with Jack Draper. Dealing with the change in pace at the Miami Open proved to be difficult as he was ousted by Dusan Lajovic.
