Adrian Mannarino vs Alexander Zverev prediction and odds: Cincinnati Open 2023

After taking out the 3rd seed in the previous round, Alex Zverev will now play Adrian Mannarino for a spot in the Western & Southern Open semi-finals. Yet will he manage to beat this plucky Frenchman? Take a look at my tennis predictions today to see what markets are worth backing.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Mannarino vs Zverev – match predictions

Believe it or not, this will be the 8th installment of Mannarino vs Zverev on the ATP Tour. And if you look at the previous matches, it’s not exactly shaping up too well for Adrian Mannarino. The Frenchman has never beaten Alex Zverev, so of course, this has a bearing on the likely outcome of this quarter-final match. Then again, both guys are obviously playing well as they are into the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 event.

Western & Southern Open 2023

Anyway, after analyzing the betting markets to find the best plays, I’ve come up with the following tips based on likely outcomes and the associated odds:

Zverev to win 2-0

Zverev has reached this point in the tournament thanks to three solid wins. He beat Dimitrov in his opener, and he backed this up with wins over Nishioka and Medvedev – the number three seed at the Western & Southern Open. Therefore, I expect him to be confident and ready to beat Mannarino for the 8th time in his career.

Zverev -3.5 games handicap

While I can’t deny that Mannarino has played great tennis at the Cincinnati Open, as proven by wins over Auger-Aliassime and Gasquet, I can’t see him getting too close to Zverev. The German just has too much power, and he is able to grind out the lengthier points too, which Mannarino likes to do on hard courts. As for their most recent match, Zverev beat Mannarino by a score of 6-1 6-0.

Mannarino vs Zverev preview

Both of these guys have had a slightly different story in recent times, and I’d like to share a couple of key details regarding this in the previews below.

Adrian Mannarino preview

At 32 in the world, Mannarino is obviously not an enormous underdog at this level. Yet last week at the Canadian Open, he lost in the first round to Taro Daniel – a surprise loss since Daniel was a qualifier. However, he turned things around in Cincinnati, and his opponent did retire mid-way through the match in his last round. So he should be feeling at least reasonably fresh.

Alex Zverev preview

Zverev has been on the comeback trail this season after suffering a horrible injury in 2022. And given that he beat one of the tournament favorites, Daniil Medvedev, in the previous round, it’s fair to say that he’s back. Therefore, if he finds his top level this evening, he could well breeze past Mannarino.

Mannarino vs Zverev head to head

Alex Zverev has a 7-0 head-to-head lead over Adrian Mannarino. This is obviously quite a commanding statistic, and better yet for Zverev, six of these seven matches have been played on hard courts. As for the last two results, Mannarino hasn’t come close to winning a set, never mind the match.
