The 2023 French Open is right around the corner, and talk of who might win is heating up. At the time of writing, the Italian Open has yet to come to a close. But there have certainly been some shocks in both the men’s and women’s singles. Specifically, Novak Djokovic lost to Holger Rune, and due to Iga Swiatek’s injury, she has been forced to pull out from Rome. This obviously causes plenty of uncertainty as we head towards Roland Garros, although it certainly makes the tournament more interesting too.
For the men’s singles, it looks like the next generation of tennis players really is making a move in the bigger events now. And for the women’s singles, Swiatek’s dominance over the last 12 months is being challenged by the likes of Sabalenka, Rybakina, and others. Therefore, when looking at the main Roland Garros favorites for either event, the choices are not quite as obvious as they have been in the past.
On that note, I’d like to take a closer look at the French Open favorites before the tournament officially begins. So if you’d like to know who is tipped for the title, check out the information below.
Leading 2023 French Open Favorites for the Men’s and Women’s Singles
Contents
In order to show you the main favorites for both of these events, the best way of doing this is to look at the betting odds for various individuals. This reveals what the major bookmakers think regarding who has the best chance of winning the 2023 French Open. And when assessing the odds for both the men’s and women’s singles, I’ve found the following information quite intriguing.
Men’s Singles Roland Garros Favorites
It goes without saying that certain players have enjoyed more success at the French Open than others. As for the main favorites in the men’s singles, the bookmakers have produced the following odds regarding the top five favorites:
- Carlos Alcaraz – 2.25
- Novak Djokovic – 2.87
- Holger Rune – 9.00
- Stefanos Tsitsipas – 10.00
- Jannik Sinner – 15.00
Since the draw has yet to be made, it’s essentially a guarantee that there will be a shift once we know where each of these guys has been placed in the draw. However, of these five guys who are clearly the main favorites, pretty much any of them could win the tournament this year. No player has displayed enormous dominance during the clay court season, with the exception of Carlos Alcaraz. But even the talented Spaniard suffered a big loss in Rome.
Women’s Singles Roland Garros Favorites
It’s a slightly different story concerning the women’s singles ahead of the 2023 French Open. Iga Swiatek is still the heavy favorite, despite her injury in Rome. She is joined by Aryna Sabalenka at the top of the tree, which is understandable since these two have been formidable throughout the clay court swing. However, other names are also among them as the key favorites for Roland Garros, as displayed here:
- Iga Swiatek – 1.72
- Aryna Sabalenka – 4.00
- Elena Rybakina – 9.00
- Barbora Krejcikova – 13.00
- Coco Gauff – 17.00
Naturally, Swiatek and Sabalenka are favored to compete for the title, yet the others have a fair shot too!
