2023 Australian Open Men’s Singles – Top Round Three Matches to Watch

The top half of the 2023 Australian Open men’s singles is now officially at the third round stage. And at the time of writing, the bottom half will be completing its own second-round games tonight. Of course, the third round is where things start to get a little spicier. It’s where many of the lower-ranked guys have been taken out, and many seeds now get a shot to take on one another for the first time. But since we only know the top half of third-round battles at the moment, naturally, I shall be focusing on those.

2023 Australian Open round three

Yet before I get to the top matches to watch, let me quickly run through some of the biggest stories relating to the top half of the draw. The one that tops the list has to relate to Nadal’s exit from the tournament. The top seed went out to McDonald earlier today, which opens up the top half of the draw tremendously. As for other big news, we’ve seen Auger-Aliassime overcome a two-set deficit to beat Molcan.

And we’ve also seen that guys like Tsitsipas and Sinner are in ridiculous form going into the third round. In fact, it’s Tsitsipas, Auger-Aliassime, and Medvedev who are now the highest seeds left in the top half. As for the mouthwatering clashes at the third round stage, there are some absolute blockbusters in the making.

Most Intriguing Australian Open Round Three Games to Tune In For

Rather than cover all of the third-round games, which I could easily do given how intriguing they are, I’ve picked my top three. This way, I can keep things simple and give you the best games to watch without overloading things! So without further ado, let me share the details:

Tiafoe vs Khachanov

In my humble opinion, I believe that Frances Tiafoe is one of the best guys to watch on tour. There is never a dull moment when he is on the court, and he is insanely talented. These ingredients set the stage for top-level tennis whenever he is out there. Yet he faces the big-hitting Russian in this huge third-round clash, which could be very juicy indeed.

Korda vs Medvedev

You may recall that Korda came within one point of taking down Novak Djokovic during the Adelaide International event just over a week ago. He’s one of the cleanest strikers of the ball out of all the taller guys, and he produces moments of magic with amazing frequency. Yet he is playing one of the tournament favorites in the form of Medvedev.

They have very contrasting styles too, which is why I think this will be a great match to watch.

Cerundolo vs Auger-Aliassime

I normally wouldn’t pick this game on a regular day. Yet since Auger-Aliassime endured such a grueling battle in the last round, I feel he is now at risk of going out through fatigue. He has left the door open for Cerundolo to cause him serious problems if he allows the Argentinian to dictate play. Both guys love to try and dominate with the forehand too, so I reckon this has the right ingredients to evolve into a classic.
