Sevilla vs Real Madrid predicted lineups – Sergio Ramos faces old friends

Sevilla vs Real Madrid predicted lineups as two of Spain’s Champions League participants face off at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. It’s an 18:30 kick-off local time in a match that will be televised in the UK and around the world.

The stage is set for Sevilla’s Sergio Ramos to face off against the club he will forever be associated with. It’s also the first game for new Sevilla boss Diego Alonso and a real baptism of fire for the former Uruguay boss.

Sevilla vs Real Madrid La Liga team news

Sevilla

Sevilla have endured a difficult start to the season with just 2 wins from 8 league matches leaving them down in 14th place. That run was also enough to convince the board to dispense with Europa League winning coach Jose Luis Mendilibar.

It’s a fresh start here under Diego Alonso who is taking charge of a club in Europe for the first time. The good news for the new man is that there are no major injury issues for him to deal with young goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor the only absentee.

Perhaps Alonso’s biggest selection call will be in goal. Marko Dmitrovic was the number one, but new signing Orjan Nyland was preferred by Mendilibar in recent games and will be hoping to keep his place.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are top of La Liga and they’ll have one eye on next weekend’s Clasico when they’ll be hoping to open up a significant advantage on Barcelona. They’ve won their last 4 in all competitions since losing the Madrid derby.

Selection-wise, Carlo Ancelotti has few major problems aside from long-term absentees Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois. Dani Ceballos and Arda Guler are also out injured while Nacho is suspended, although it’s unlikely that any of those players would have started.

The big selection calls for the Italian revolve around whether to pick Joselu or out-of-form Rodrygo in attack alongside Vini Junior. There’s also uncertainty at left back where Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga and Fran Garcia are all options.

Featured duel: Jude Bellingham vs Fernando

Jude Bellingham is very much the man of the moment for Real Madrid. He’s fired in 8 league goals already making him La Liga’s top scorer and was on song again in midweek as England defeated Italy to qualify for Euro 2024.

The player with the tough task of trying to keep him quiet here will most likely be Fernando. Sevilla’s holding midfielder is now 36 but remains an important player although his stats this season are less impressive with 1 tackle and 0.5 interceptions per game in La Liga, both inferior to the numbers he posted last term.

Will Sergio Ramos play against Real Madrid?

Sergio Ramos is another veteran of the game who is certainly past his best but still capable of being an important player for Sevilla. He’ll be eager to come up against his old club here and is likely to start, assuming new boss Diego Alonso doesn’t spring any major surprises.

Sevilla vs Real Madrid predicted lineup – The Final Word

This will be a tough task for Sevilla who’ll be hoping their crowd and something of a new manager bounce can fire them to a surprise victory.

It’s hard to see it though against a Bellingham inspired Real Madrid and in truth Diego Alonso’s managerial CV is not the most impressive with a 2022 World Cup group stage exit with Uruguay the most recent disappointment.
