Following the high profile departure of Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr and the Mbappe saga, PSG have struggled to get going under new manager Luis Enrique. A host of new signings are yet to bed in and that has been evident in their recent form of just two wins in five games.
Borussia Dortmund, after yet another heartbreaking 2nd place finish in the league, have started strong as they are unbeaten in their last five games. Edin Terzić may not have an array of superstars like PSG has at his disposal, but he has built a multifaceted team of hard-working footballers.
Team news: Paris Saint-Germain
On paper PSG have a more balanced lineup after the summer transfer window. A fit and firing wing duo of Mbappe and Ousmane Dembélé can be terrifying. A key question will be who gets the nod upfront between Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani.
The defense has been an Achilles heel for Les Parisiens; however the arrival of Milan Škriniar and Lucas Hernández is likely to bolster this area. Manuel Ugarte will add much needed steel in the defensive midfield role.
The concern for Enrique will be the injury with a number of key personnel, including Marco Asensio, Nordi Mukiele, and Nuno Mendes who are missing out. Fabian Ruiz and Presnel Kimpembe are also serious doubts, as are Lee Kang-in and Sergio Rico.
Paris Saint-Germain predicted line-up
Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Hernandez; Zaire-Emery, Ugarte, Vitinha; Dembele, Kolo Muani, Mbappe
Team news: Borussia Dortmund
Despite the high profile sale of Jude Bellingham, die Schwarzgelben’s form has been decent. They have made functional transfers, particularly bolstering the central midfield with Lucas Nmecha and Marcel Sabitzer, adding dynamism and verticality. The Yellow Wall hopeful will be looking forward to seeing how the new look midfield works.
A concern area for Dortmund has been their leaky defence, and it will be interesting to see how Mats Hummels will fare against the pacy PSG front three. Coach Terzić is likely to select a high energy midfield that will outrun their PSG counterparts and protect the Dortmund defence.
Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey are both going to be out, as will Julien Duranville and Giovanni Reyna. but the return of Niclas Fullkrug, Julian Ryerson and Gregor Kobel will be a huge boost for the Black and Yellow.
Borussia Dortmund predicted line-up
Kobel; Wolf, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Sabitzer, Can, Brandt; Malen, Haller, Reus
Will Kolo Muani start ahead of Ramos?
The biggest dilemma for Enrique this Tuesday would be the name of his number 9. Does he go with Ramos, who holds the ball up well and acts as a penalty box poacher? Or does “Lucho” replace him with the pace, trickery and direct running threat of Kolo Muani? The French international may have the edge due to the lack of speed in the Dortmund backline.
